Erica Hawley Finishes 12th In Napier
Erica Hawley started her season with an impressive twelfth-place finish in the World Triathlon Cup Napier, on New Zealand’s North Island, today [February 24].
Hawley, who is chasing her dream of qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer, was competing in a field of 41 athletes and completed the sprint-distance course [750-metre swim, 20-kilometre cycle and 5km run] in 57min 46sec.
The 25-year-old, whose splits were 10:23, 29:24 and 16:45, is hoping to secure one of two places per gender available to each National Olympic Committee after the cut-off period on May 27. There are 110 places up for grabs for Paris.
Sophie Linn, of Australia, won the race in 56:35, with Sophie Aiden, of Britain, coming second in 56:43 and compatriot Olivia Mathias placing third in 56:44.
