Bermudian boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons will look to continue his education in the paid ranks when he faces Marcell Sams Jr in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday [March 2].
Simmons [2-0] faces American Sams [1-9] in a four-round cruiserweight contest at the Labcity Sports, Training and Events Centre.
The 26-year-old will be confident of building on his promising start since turning professional, stopping Jayvone Dafney inside the first round in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, this month and Tre Baker in the second round in Charlotte in December last year.
Sams, 29, lost his first nine pro fights by knockout but claimed his maiden victory in his most recent outing, stopping debutant Ponenail Wright in Columbia in December last year.
In a recent interview, Simmons told Bernews he hopes for at least five or six more fights this year.
“I’m looking for better opponents and better training camps. I want everything better from here on out,” said Simmons, who trains at the Bone Breaker Gym in Morganton, North Carolina.
“As long as I stay away from injury, I want to fight at least every other month. I want seven to eight fights this year.”
Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons was raised by his Bermudian parents in Somerset before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother when he was 12.
He enjoyed a successful amateur career, placing runner-up at the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the Golden Gloves of America in Oklahoma in 2021.
