UK Lady Golfers Fly Bermuda Flag In Spain
A group of UK lady golfers, bonded by their love for Bermuda, flew the island’s flag in Tenerife, Spain this past week.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda flag is flying high on the golf course in Tenerife, Spain this week courtesy of a group of lady golfers from various parts of the UK who hold a special place in their hearts for the time spent in Bermuda golfing while staying at the beautiful Pompano Beach Club and playing the neighbouring Port Royal Golf Course.
“The friendships that developed meeting in Bermuda formulated into the development of a golf society named BOGGS, for Bermuda Old Girls Golfing Society. A compilation of formidable amateur golfers consisting of past and present Lady Captains from Nottingham, Hampshire, Channel Islands and other regions within the United Kingdom.”
Rosemary Lockwood said, “There are eight of us ladies here [Tenerife] golfing every day. We all met in Bermuda on golf professional Ms. Chris Langford’s Bermuda Trophy while staying at Pompano Beach Club. We love Bermuda and now whenever we go away to golf, we always take our Bermuda flag with us.”
The spokesperson said, “A contingent from the ladies golf society will be heading to Bermuda from March 14 to March 18, 2024 to participate in the BDA, UK, Erie, Golf FAM Trip being organised by Kim Swan and Andrew Smith, co-founders of the Bermuda UK Ireland Golf Link Society.
Junior Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport Kim Swan said, “For decades it was our high repeat visitor percentage that silently marketed Bermuda in the communities that housed our target audience.
“These ladies love for Bermuda ensures positive vibes about Bermuda is being transmitted wherever they go golfing.
“Love is a powerful ingredient we have at our disposal to promote Bermuda.
“These ladies’ love for Bermuda has translated to them promoting Bermuda whenever they get together to golf. I’m deeply moved by their deep abiding affection for Bermuda.
“I’m pleased they will be joining us to interact with first time golf visitors to Bermuda as we look to build long lasting relationships going forward.”
