Video: Collie Buddz Nominated For Grammy
The Grammys are being held tonight [Feb 4] in Los Angeles, with Bermudian reggae artist Collie Buddz nominated for a Grammy in the Best Reggae Album category, with the category won by Julian Marley & Antaeus.
Widely regarded as the most prestigious award in the musical entertainment industry, Collie Buddz is believed to be the first Bermudian singer to receive a solo nomination in the event.
The category was eventually won by Julian Marley, the son of the legendary Bob Marley, and the other artists nominated included Buju Banton for “Born For Greatness,” Beenie Man for “Simma,” and Burning Spear for “No Destroyer,” while Collie Buddz earned the nomination for his ‘Cali Roots Riddim 2023′ album.
“It’s weird to see my name with all the reggae legends, but I’ll take it,” the Bermudian singer — whose YouTube channel has over 250 million views — told Rolling Stone magazine in an interview prior to the event.
In a rather remarkable showing for a small island, Bermuda also has two other people connected to tonight’s Grammy Awards, as ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’ – a Broadway musical which includes Nicholas and Jonathan Christopher — earned a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album, with the category won by Some Like It Hot.
