The Bermuda Golf Association [BGA] pledged its commitment to advancing women’s golf by becoming a Global Signatory of the R&A Women’s Charter.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Golf Association Pledges Commitment to Grow Women’s Golf [Hamilton, Bermuda] – To mark International Women’s Day, The Bermuda Golf Association [BGA] proudly announces it has agreed to sign as a Global Signatory of the R&A Women’s Charter. This statement of intent marks a significant milestone in the organisation’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity and expand opportunities for women in golf.

“With a steadfast commitment to fostering growth across the island’s golfing community, the BGA views the signing of the R&A Women’s Charter as a pivotal moment in its mission to create a more diverse and welcoming environment within the sport.

“The R&A Women’s Charter:

  • Is a statement of intent from the golf industry to unite and to focus on gender balance
  • Commits us all to supporting measures to increase the number of women, girls and families playing golf
  • Calls for positive action to encourage women to pursue careers in all areas of the sport
  • Recognises the need for change that creates an inclusive environment within golf

“Global Signatories commit to activate this Charter by:

  • Developing and implementing an internal strategy for enhancing gender balance at every level
  • Establishing senior management responsibility and accountability for gender balance and inclusion
  • Strongly advocating more women and girls playing and working in golf
  • Working with key stakeholders to develop and embed a more inclusive culture
  • Promoting the Charter and our goal of encouraging more women and girls to play golf and work in golf.

As the BGA Golf Development Officer [GDO], Ebonie Cox, has recently launched an, “Operation 36 Fore Ladies” an initiative aimed at increasing female participation in golf through Operation 36, “As a sport, golf has provided me great opportunities throughout my life, including representing my country. Now being involved in golf development, I am deeply passionate about developing the game, especially to see more young girls and women gain access to learn and enjoy golf.”

Long-standing BGA Board member, Linda Down, shares her passion for the sport, emphasising the importance of encouraging women and young girls to embrace golf as a lifelong pursuit. “Golf has long been a passion of mine, and it is our role as stewards of the game to encourage women of all ages and young girls to learn how to play golf. It is truly a sport that provides opportunity for interaction and connections between different generations while also creating great life and social skills along with health benefits.” says Down.

BGA President Craig Brown echoes this sentiment, “The BGA, working with our charitable arm The Bermuda Golf Foundation [Charity #141], is constantly evolving. We recognise encouraging more women to be involved is one of the biggest growth areas in our sport. The successful introduction of The Operation 36 program will provided further development to grow the game across the island. We are excited to be aligning ourselves with the R&A Women’s Charter. Bermuda has many examples of females in leadership positions on and off the golf course. In joining as a R&A Women’s Charter as a Global Signatory we will look to honour the charter commitments and continue to facilitate more opportunities for women to represent Bermuda Golf at all levels, both on and off the golf course.” states Brown.
