What does this year’s budget mean for Bermudians and residents will be the topic of an online discussion hosted by the Information Commissioner’s office.

A spokesperson said, “Information Commissioner Gitanjali Gutierrez and media personality Jamel Hardtman invite the public to join PATI & The People’s Budget, an interactive discussion on the Government’s 2024/2025 budget. Now that the budget has been presented, what does this year’s budget mean for Bermudians and residents?

Information Commissioner Gitanjali Gutierrez, “The Bermuda Government is in the midst of its annual budget season. The foundation of the Government’s budget are the public funds that come from the pockets of not only Bermudians and residents, but the businesses that support our economy.

“Once the 2024/2025 budget is presented, debated and approved, the Government will move forward with publicly funded projects and policies that directly impact individuals’ livelihoods, families, businesses and communities. The ICO wants to remind the people of Bermuda that the PATI Act is a tool that empowers the public to understand how the government will spend funds allocated to public services and projects.

“This conversation is an opportunity for the public, as key stakeholders, to engage in a real-time discussion of how to use their PATI rights in the context of government spending and publicly funded projects. I look forward to once again co-hosting this event with Jamel Hardtman, who last year set the stage for a concrete and relevant discussion for our viewers.

“This year we look forward to once again interacting with the public and discussing how important it is to keep the government and other public authorities accountable and transparent in their decision-making. A key part of this is ensuring that Bermudians and residents of Bermuda understand and are able to utilize their rights to access information under PATI. This discussion will help to equip people with the information that they need to do so.”

“People can join the discussion on the ICO YouTube Channel, Facebook page or website, ico.bm.”
