Premier David Burt Delivers Easter Message
Premier David Burt delivered an Easter message, saying ‘we wish all who celebrate a blessed and joyous Easter.;
Premier Burt said, “This week, our Christian community comes together, united in our faith in God, our gratitude for the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and our hope for forgiveness and redemption.
“So many of us are looking forward to a break to put our worries aside, enjoy time with our families, build and fly our kites, and, of course, eat far too many Hot Cross Buns and Fishcakes!
“Yet, as we celebrate this time, we must always be mindful that, like Christmas, ‘Jesus is the reason for the season.’
“We celebrate the words in Luke 24:34, ‘The Lord is risen indeed!” and take refuge in the foundation of the Christian faith that we have eternal salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. We must also ensure that at this time of year, we especially embody the Christian values of service and care for one another.
“Deuteronomy 15:11 tells us: ‘For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore, I command you, saying, ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, your poor and your needy, in your land.’
“Throughout our island, countless churches, volunteer organisations, and charities are doing just that, working alongside our government to ensure that those who fall through the cracks can get some of the help they need and a path to getting back on their feet.
“Their work epitomises our Bermudian culture, putting aside our differences and pulling together to help one another. They know that regardless of how or if we celebrate Easter, we must never forget that we all need help, a kind word, or guidance sometimes. It is that kindness and compassion for our neighbours that has always made Bermuda a special place.
“To those selfless persons and organisations, I say thank you, and we pray and work towards a day when all the help you provide is no longer needed.
“As a people, our strength is at its greatest when we recognise that we need each other, that each of us is valuable in our own way, and that we have a voice that deserves to be heard. We must also always remember that for each of us, someone somewhere has sacrificed to allow us the freedom to celebrate and gather together with those we love.
“No matter your race, religion, or beliefs, my prayer is that we can unite as a community during this Easter weekend. Look out for one another, and continue our collective work to make Bermuda an even better place for all Bermudians.
“I pray that as we travel across our beautiful island, we do so safely and return to our homes safely and that all families remember this time as one of joy.
“On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, my wife Kristin, and our children, we wish all who celebrate a blessed and joyous Easter.”
