Short Course Record Breakers & Champions
A number of swimming records were broken at the Bermuda Short Course National Championships which was recently held at the National Sports Center.
Brandon Adkins is now the national open and 17/18 age group short course record holder in the 200m freestyle after clocking 1.50.30, breaking Jesse Washington’s record time of 1:52.40 set back in March 2018.
Adkins also holds the 17-18 age group record in the 100m freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 50.95 and breaking Jesse Washington’s record of 51.27 during the best of best age group championships in 2018.
Thomas Cechini broke three boys 15-16 age group short course records during the championships.
Cechini broke the 800m freestyle by clocking a time of 8.37.35, breaking his own record time of 8:47.36 set during the BASA short course championships in 2023. Cechini then broke Jesse Washington’s 200 butterfly record time of 2:17.04, set back in 2016 during the best of the best #1 meet after being clocked at 2.10.94.
Cechini then beat the 200 freestyle with a time of 1.53.68, breaking Washington’s time of 1:54.67 set in 2016 during the Schroders age group championships.
