Barnes Reflects On Clean Sweep In Orlando

Scott Barnes has reflected on his best race weekend yet with new team Maranello Karts USA after completing a clean sweep of wins in the final round of the Rok USA Florida Winter Tour in Orlando last weekend.
The Bermudian, competing in a field of 18 drivers in the Shifter Masters, won all three heats, the pre-final, qualifying in pole position in the final race, in which he also took the chequered flag.
“You can’t ask for more than completing a clean sweep,” Barnes told Bernews. “I qualified in pole and opened a comfortable lead after the first few laps. It was a matter of keeping my head down and keep pushing.
“During the last few laps, I focused on hitting my marks and not making any mistakes. I brought it home in the final, which was awesome.”
He added: “It was also great to have Jeff Sousa as my tuner in Orlando – a fellow Bermudian, working as a tuner for Maranello.”
The 39-year-old finished the Winter Tour series in fourth place overall, despite missing the opening round in January, having secured two podiums in the second round in February.
Barnes, who has signed for Maranello Kart for the remainder of the season, will now turn his attention to the inaugural Stars Championship Series, which features four races, starting in Charlotte, North Carolina, next month.
He will also continue his campaign in the Skusa Pro Tour, with the SpringNationals at the Motorsports Country Club in Batavia, Ohio, from June 14 to 16 and the SummerNationals at the New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana, from July 26 to 28.
“I’ve had three great weekends with Maranello so far,” Barnes said. “Hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come this year.
“I can’t thank Maranello Karts USA and Carblos Racing Engines enough for the opportunity to drive for them this year.”
