Khano Smith’s Rhode Island Earn Point
Khano Smith’s first match in charge of Rhode Island FC ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw at home to Mexico United in their USL Championship season-opener yesterday [March 16].
A stoppage-time goal in the 92nd minute from Mark Doyle ensured Rhode Island earned a share of the spoils in their inaugural match.
New Mexico took the lead in the 67th minute through defender Talen Maples with a close-range finish.
The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,252 at Beirne Stadium.
Smith, a former Bermuda and New England Revolution winger, was appointed coach and general manager of Rhode Island in March last year.
Rhode Island face Monterey Bay away on March 24.
