Vanessa James missed the opportunity to compete in the Dancing on Ice final on British television after her partner, Greg Rutherford, suffered an injury.
James and Rutherford were set to face Adele Roberts, a reality TV star, and her pro partner Mark Hanretty; Miles Nazaire, another reality TV personality, and his pro partner Vanessa Bauer; and actor Ryan Thomas and his pro partner Amani Fancy in the final on Sunday [March 10].
However, Rutherford, a former Olympic long jumper, withdrew from the final after sustaining an injury in rehearsals.
Dancing on Ice wrote on Instagram: “Sadly, Olympian Greg Rutherford MBE has had to withdraw from Dancing on Ice after sustaining an injury while in rehearsals for the final episode of the current series.
“Greg and Vanessa have been such a popular couple this series and have performed some truly memorable routines.
“We will be helping to support Greg and wish him well with his recovery. We also want to thank him for being such a treasured member of the Dancing on Ice family.”
James is no stranger to reality TV, having previously appeared on Battle of the Blades – a Canadian figure skating competition.
Although James was born in Ontario, Canada, her father is Bermudian, and she lived on the island until age ten when her family moved to Virginia in the United States.
James, 36, represented France at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2010, Sochi, Russia, in 2014, and Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018. She also represented Canada at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, in 2022.
Rutherford, 37, represented Great Britain at two Olympics, winning gold in London in 2012 and bronze in the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.
