Thomas-Bassett & Simons To Play Int’l Matches
Warwick Academy’s High Performance Football Program continued to facilitate opportunities for student athletes, with Xavier Thomas-Bassett and Ayshalay Simons securing invitations to tournaments following their performances at ID camps and showcases.
A spokesperson said, “Warwick Academy continues to provide opportunities for students enrolled in the High Performance Football Program to test themselves and gain exposure at international football events.
“Through a partnership with International Development Academy, student athletes are able to participate in ID camps in Bermuda and in the United States where they are assessed for possible invites to select team showcase and tournament events.
“Xavier Thomas-Bassett (Y8) participated in the IDA camp at Warwick Academy during the October break. Based on his demonstrated abilities as a goalkeeper, he has been invited to participate in the Mediterranean International Cup tournament over March 24-31 with the 2011 IDA Valencia program. The MIC is one of the largest youth tournaments in the world, and annually attracts major clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, PSG and Ajax.
“Xavier will spend several days in Valencia, Spain training with the team and playing a warmup match, before traveling to Lloret de Mar for the tournament where he will play in a minimum of 4 matches.
“Ayshalay Simons recently attended the Surf National Showcase event in San Diego, California where she participated in a college combine and Surf National Select ID games with the North East Surf Regional Select 2008 girls team. Players from this event were assessed for invitation to the Surf National Select teams, which participate in international tournaments and showcase events throughout the calendar year.
“Ayshalay was outstanding playing at centre back for her team, and has earned selection to the Surf National Select white team that will participate in the Crossfire Challenge College Showcase tournament during July 12-15, 2024 in Redmond Washington, just outside of Seattle. The Crossfire Challenge has become the premier youth tournament in the Pacific Northwest and attracted over 100 college coaches & scouts last year. Ayshalay will have the opportunity to play with elite level players at this high level event, hoping to impress and get on the radar of coaches recruiting for their colleges and universities.”
