Endeavour Partners With SailGP Inspire
Endeavour is partnering with SailGP Inspire – the global league’s community, education and outreach programme, to “offer legacy opportunities to benefit Bermuda’s youth.”
A spokesperson said, “Endeavour, a Bermuda-registered charity that builds self-confidence and life skills by engaging diverse youth from across Bermuda in experiential learning through sailing, is partnering with SailGP Inspire – the global league’s community, education and outreach programme, to offer legacy opportunities to benefit Bermuda’s youth.
“Endeavour is partnering with SailGP Inspire for the third year for an online fundraiser presented by Sir Russell Coutts – SailGP CEO and Endeavour Chair Emeritus. Funds raised will benefit Bermuda’s youth through youth sailing scholarships at Bermuda sailing clubs and international SailGP work experiences for Bermudian youth who have completed Endeavour’s programmes.”
Sir Russell Coutts, SailGP CEO said, “We are proud to partner with Endeavour through SailGP Inspire to support the legacy opportunities that increase access to youth sailing and maritime training opportunities for diverse young people across Bermuda. Through our collective efforts we are inspiring the next generation of Bermudian sailors and maritime professionals representing young people of all skills, backgrounds and abilities. We encourage everyone to bid for the exclusive SailGP experiences and one-of-a kind items in this unique fundraiser.”

“Funds raised in 2021 and 2022 have benefitted 36 young Bermudians, along with hundreds more youth who have engaged in the SailGP Inspire opportunities in partnership with Endeavour.
“Ten Bermudians who are graduates of the Endeavour Maritime Career Springboard Programme have gained additional skills and boosted their resumes taking part in SailGP Inspire work experiences around the world travelling to Denmark, France, Spain, Singapore, as well as San Francisco. Three Springboard Grads are scheduled to take part in SailGP work experiences in Halifax, New York City, and San Francisco in the next few months.
“The Endeavour Maritime Springboard Programme is a maritime training and career development initiative that equips Bermudian youth aged 16 and older with training and career connections to broaden their exposure to maritime career pathways. Endeavour has partnered with the Bermuda College Athora Division of Professional and Career Education [APACE] since 2018 to offer hands-on experience, skills development and internationally-recognised qualifications in addition to maritime connections for young Bermudians who are seeking employment and interested in working in the maritime industry.”
19-year-old and 2022 Endeavour Springboard Grad, Sanai Robinson shared, “It was an awesome experience being a part of SailGP’s hospitality team in Saint-Tropez, France. My most enjoyable moment with SailGP is seeing the different perspectives of what SailGP is all about and what they do. I’ve learned that SailGP has a very diverse community whether you’re working with a team, or with a department. Everyone works together to reach the end goal which is some good racing and long lasting friendships. My proudest achievement has been expanding my knowledge and cultural experiences. This experience has really opened up my eyes to the different opportunities within SailGP and the wider marine industry.”
19-year old and 2022 Endeavour Springboard Grad, Ruth Mello-Cann, shared, “I truly enjoyed my experience during the Mubadala SailGP Season 3 Grand Final in San Francisco, California. It was incredible to see what SailGP is like in a different country and what the atmosphere is like during the finals. It was an awesome experience that taught me a lot about working in a team and how to effectively complete tasks. It was also an amazing opportunity for me to gain practical experience working with boats. As a result of this experience, I have been more inclined to working in a hands-on job in the marine science field.”
The spokesperson said, “The fundraiser has also enabled 23 youth sailors who have completed the Endeavour Graduate Programme to be awarded youth sailing scholarships to continue their skill development with three sailing clubs: Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, and USAIL. Past participants represented 10 local schools: Bermuda HomeSchool Network, Bermuda Institute, CedarBridge Academy, Dellwood Middle School, Mount Saint Agnes, Saltus, Sandys Secondary Middle School, Somersfield Academy, The Berkeley Institute, and Whitney Institute Middle School.
“The Endeavour Graduate Programme offers a pathway for students who have completed the Endeavour Middle School Programme, a five-day STEAM through Sailing experience offered to every 11-12 year old student in Bermuda to continue developing their skills and confidence on the water. Students demonstrating excellence in teamwork, respect for others, listening skills, willingness to learn, and overall effort are invited to advance their sailing knowledge and skills through training sessions during school mid‐term breaks, weekends, and in the summer.
“For many students, Endeavour’s programmes offer them a first exposure to sailing, and they participate in Endeavour’s programmes at no cost as a result of the generous support from Endeavour’s donors. For those wishing to sail after completing Endeavour’s programmes, cost can be a barrier to continue however Endeavour partners with sailing clubs to ensure more opportunities are offered through youth sailing scholarships.
“The Endeavour x SailGP Inspire Youth Sailing Scholarship assists promising youth sailing sailors with scholarships to sail with local clubs to ensure they can continue building their love for sailing, and enjoy getting out on the water while developing their skills and knowledge of the sport.”
Jennifer Pitcher, Endeavour’s Executive Director said, “Endeavour is proud to partner with the SailGP Inspire for another year of exciting learning and skills development opportunities for diverse youth across Bermuda. We are incredibly grateful for the support from Endeavour’s donors and supporters including lead founding partner, Orbis Investments who generously support Endeavour’s programmes that positively impact diverse young lives across Bermuda.
“Endeavour extends special thanks to SailGP and the SailGP teams who have donated exclusive experiences and premium items for the online fundraiser. Endeavour is also thankful to the bidders and donors including Karen Plianthos who gave a $10,000 donation on behalf of Bermuda Wine Concierge and SailGP.”
