The U.S. Consulate General encourages students to apply for the Summer Academy of Actuarial and Mathematical Sciences at Morgan State University,

A spokesperson said, “Are you an aspiring actuary in your final year of secondary school? Apply now to head to the United States for the Summer Academy of Actuarial and Mathematical Sciences [SAAMS]. Morgan State University, in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General in Bermuda, has reopened its 2024 Summer Academy of Actuarial and Mathematical Sciences [SAAMS] Program especially for Bermudians and residents of Bermuda.

“The June 17-July 28 program will run for three weeks virtually with the final three weeks in person at Morgan State. Several local insurance companies have stepped forward to fund flights to Baltimore, Maryland for successful candidates.

“The Summer Academy is a rigorous academic enrichment program designed to foster excitement among rising final year secondary school students in Mathematics, Actuarial Science and Computer Science. [Equivalent to rising high school seniors in the United States]. This pipeline program is within Morgan State’s Department of Mathematics. The goal of the SAAMS program is to help increase the number of students who will enter mathematics and actuarial science fields. SAAMS students are exposed to interdisciplinary approaches to learning and furthering their education.

“Students will attend Mathematics, Actuarial Science, and Computer Science classes. Applicants are selected through a competitive application and interview process, and applicants who are accepted into and complete the SAAMS Program are rewarded a stipend. Students will experience program-related field trips and professional development sessions.

“Morgan State University is a Historically Black Research Institution, located in Baltimore, Maryland. Morgan State is the only Historically Black College and University [HBCU] with an Actuarial Sciences major.
