Advisory: BBA Winner’s Edge Bicycle Race

The Ministry of Public Works is informing motorists that the BBA Winner’s Edge Bicycle Race will take place on Sunday [April 14] between the hours of 8.00am and 11.00am.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform motorists that the Bermuda Bicycle Association Team Winners Edge Bicycle Race will occur on Sunday, April 14th, 2024, between 8:00 am and 11:00 am.

“The following roads will be affected:

Race Route:

“The bicycle race commences and ends at Kindley Field Road. Participants will travel east to the roundabout at Mullet Bay and Kindley Field Roads, then proceed straight to St. Davids Road up to the Clearwater Middle School. They will make a right turn onto Pepper Hall Road followed by another right turn onto Tommy Fox Road. The participants continue to the roundabout at Southside and Lower Gates Roads, turning onto Lower Gates Road before making a left turn onto St. Davids Road. They then continue straight from the roundabout near Double Dip down Kindley Field Road over the Causeway to Blue Hole Hill roundabout and then return to end race at Kindley Field Road.

Traffic Control:

“The bicycle race will commence on Sunday, April 14th, 2024, at 8:00 am and is expected to conclude by 11:00 am. The race route will be under the control of race marshals who will be stationed at specific areas.

“Kindley Field Road Roundabout at Southside & Lower Gates Roads Roundabout at Mullet Bay &Kindley Field Roads Junction at Lower Gates & St. Davids Roads St. Davids & Pepper Hall Roads Roundabout at The Causeway & Kindley Field Road Pepper Hall & Tommy Fox Roads Roundabout at Blue Hole Hill & North Shore Road.

Road Closures:

“There will be no road closures. All motorists are expected to use caution and avoid collisions with race participants. Motorists are asked to follow the instructions given by the race marshals to assist with traffic control for this event.

“The Ministry of Public Works encourages the full cooperation of the motoring public and apologizes for any inconvenience that may result. For inquiries, please contact the race representative, Greg Hopkins at #295-6012.

“In addition, the Bermuda police are hereby authorized to “Close-Off’ streets or portions of streets and authorize parking as the Commissioner of Police decides.

Road Traffic [Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race] Order 2024

“The Minister responsible for works and engineering, in exercise of the power conferred by section 4 of the Road Traffic Act 194 7, makes the following Order:

  • “1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic [Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race] Order 2024.
  • “2. This Order applies in respect of the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race [the bicycle race] on Bermuda Land Development Company Limited roadways in St. David’s and Ministry of Public Works Roads to be held on Sunday, 14th April 2024.
  • “3. The bicycle race will follow the route specified below.
  • “4. The Commissioner of Police is hereby authorized to close roads or portions of roads and authorize parking as the Commissioner of Police decides in the interests of public safety.

Race Route:

“The bicycle race commences and ends at Kindley Field Road. Commencing on Kindley Field Road traveling easterly to the Mullet Bay Road roundabout, then continue along to St. David’s Road traveling until Clear Water Middle School, then make a right turn on to Pepper Hall Road followed by another right turn on to Tommy Fox Road, continuing to the roundabout at Southside and Lower Gates Roads, then turn on to Lower Gate Road and head northerly towards St David’s Road, then turn left on St David’s Road and then travel westerly towards the Kindley Field Road roundabout, near Double Dip, continue on Kindley Field Road, then continue westerly along The Causeway until the Blue Hole Hill roundabout at Wilkinson Avenue junction, then turn right and head easterly towards The Causeway and continue along Kindley Field Road to the roundabout to end the race.

Traffic Control:

“The bicycle race will commence on Sunday, 14th April 2024 at 8:00am and is expected to conclude by 11:00am. All motorists are expected to use caution and to avoid collision with race participants. The race route will be under the control of the police and race officials. Motorists must follow instructions from race officials to assist with traffic control for this event.

Roads Closed:

“There will be no roads closed to traffic while the bicycle race takes place.

Parking:

“There will be no parking restrictions in place for the bicycle race, with motorists permitted to park in designated parking bays along any part of the race route. Additionally, motorists must not block the race route or impede the participants in the bicycle race.

“The Minister responsible for works and engineering, in exercise of the power conferred by section 7(2A) of the Road Traffic Act 1947, makes the following Order:

  • “1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic [Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race] [Variation of Speed Limits] Order 2024.
  • “2. This Order applies to the contestants and to the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race on Bermuda Land Development Company Limited roadways in St. David’s and Ministry of Public Works Roads to be held on Sunday, 14th April 2024.
  • “3. The speed limits fixed by section 7 [2] [a] of the Road Traffic Act 1947 are hereby varied to the extent specified in the first column of the Schedule in respect of the contestants and the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race.
  • “4. The relevant roads or parts thereof specified in the second column of the Schedule are hereby declared to be subject, at the times specified in the third column of the Schedule, in respect of the contestants and the vehicles attendant on the contestants in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Winners Edge Bicycle Road Race, to the speed limit specified in the first column thereof.

Schedule

  • Speed Limit: “75 kilometres per hour.
  • Roads: “The bicycle race commences and ends at Kindley Field Road. Commencing on Kindley Field Road traveling easterly to the Mullet Bay Road roundabout, then continue along to St. David’s Road traveling until Clear Water Middle School, then make a right turn onto Pepper Hall Road followed by another right turn onto Tommy Fox Road, continuing to the roundabout at Southside and Lower Gates Roads, then turn onto Lower Gate Road and head northerly towards St David’s Road, then turn left on St David’s Road and then travel westerly towards the Kindley Field Road roundabout, near Double Dip, continue on Kindley Field Road, then continue westerly along The Causeway until the Blue Hole Hill roundabout at Wilkinson Avenue junction, then turn right and head easterly towards The Causeway and continue along Kindley Field Road to the roundabout to end the race.
