NMB Hosts Workshops For Scrapbook Project
The National Museum of Bermuda is hosting a series of free workshops to encourage participation in their ongoing community crowd-sourced project, Bermuda Family Scrapbook [BFS]
A spokesperson said, “BFS invites anyone who lives or has lived in Bermuda to submit historic family photographs and the stories behind them to NMB. The submissions will become part of the Museum’s permanent collection and also form digital and in-person exhibits. BFS is an extension of the Museum’s award-winning community education programme ‘Tracing Our Roots/Routes’: nmb.bm/tracing-our-roots and is supported by NMB’s ‘The Future of History’ Campaign.
“The workshops, called Bermuda Family Scrapbook Material Memories, make up a four-part series that will be held at Bermuda National Library and led by Community Education and Social Arts Practitioner and NMB Trustee, Dr. Janet Ferguson. Through workshops, the Museum invites participants to become part of a collective narrative, weaving together the threads of personal and communal history. Your stories, anecdotes, and memories will contribute to the diverse narrative of Bermuda’s cultural heritage.”
NMB Curator Dr. Deborah Atwood shared, “Have you ever pondered over the old photographs tucked away in your home? Each image holds within it a story waiting to be shared. From posed portraits to candid snapshots, every photograph is a portal to a moment in time, a window into the lives of those captured within. In our workshop, participants will engage in excavating, sharing, and crafting short pieces of writing that explore the personal, intellectual, and historical associations they have with a precious family photograph. These photographs serve as vessels for our memories, carrying within them the essence of the people and events we hold dear.”
