The OBA announced that Lateef Trott will be their candidate for Constituency 5 Hamilton East.

A spokesperson said, “Lateef Trott is the One Bermuda Alliance’s adopted candidate for constituency 5, Hamilton East. Lateef attended CedarBridge Academy before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Cica-International University & Seminary.

“He’s also earned a Master’s Degree in Biblical Exposition and is presently studying for his Doctorate in the same subject.

“An avid cricketer, Lateef has played for Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club for the past 15 years and has played in the annual Cup Match Cricket Classic, representing St. George’s. He is also a former Bermuda cricket international.

“As a teenager, Lateef began volunteering with King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s Ambulance Service and Emergency Department and St John’s Ambulance. It was then he fell in love with the medical field.

“He is currently employed by The Corporation of Hamilton as a Parking Enforcement Officer.Lateef was raised in Harlem Heights so becoming a candidate for the area was an obvious choice for him: “Why not go back and give back to every resident who watched you grow up, watched you play cricket, supported you in ministry and corrected and loved you unconditionally?

“Why not go back and be a listening ear and be a consistent presence within the area that is overlooked. It’s important to give people the opportunity to be heard, and to not only see that you care, but feel it as well.”

“Lateef encourages young people in Bermuda to become involved in politics: “We need more young strong men and women who are not afraid of being in the forefront armed with a desire to create a better Bermuda.

“Many young adults are willing to engage in politics because Bermuda needs participation, which is a fundamental part of citizenship. It is the process by which the young people of our generation can influence decision-making which affects their lives to bring about positive and meaningful change. Lateef is married and in his spare time he enjoys going on walks, travelling, going the gym and spending time with family.”

Constituency 5 Hamilton East is currently held by the PLP’s Derrick Burgess; he has won the seat in the last five General Elections – since 2003 — always earning over 72% of the vote.

  1. watching says:

They continue to roll out candidates without hearing 1 word from them on any topic. It is a very interesting strategy. But at some point they will have to talk and speak to the issues.

    • Jus' Wonderin' says:

Talk and speak the issues just like your party does with its transparency LMFAO. Still no word on the hack huh?! wonder why…..

      • Hmmm says:

Stop LOL at OBA who will never get in.

        • Truth says:

          Why would they want to?
The island is broke and it looks shabby.
You win…you’ve destroyed the jewel of the atlantic….bravo for you, now what?

        • Jus' Wonderin' says:

And you’re happy with the way we’re all livin right now?! ya must be either getting paid or delusional. Ya stuck on Nike or Reebok while guys are thinking bigger picture but you can’t see that and won’t until its too late enjoy……

          • Truth says:

So you expect people to vote for a racist opposition party.

            • Question says:

You think Black Bermudians are Racist?

              • Joe Bloggs says:

“You think Black Bermudians are Racist?”

That is a generalisation that can only lead to more argument. There are black people in Bermuda (and elsewhere) who are racist and there are white people in Bermuda (and elsewhere) who are racist. That is simply a sad fact of life at the moment.
