Bermuda Day Road & Traffic Closures Announced

The Ministry of Public Works has announced road and traffic restrictions for Bermuda Day on May 24th.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform the public about road and traffic restrictions for Bermuda Day on Friday, 24 May 2024. These measures are necessary to accommodate the various race events and the parade taking place between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Race Route:

Sinclair Packwood Memorial Cycle Race:

“Starts at Somerset Road, crosses Somerset Bridge, heads east on Middle Road, turns left on Burnt House Hill, continues on Harbour Road, The Lane, and Crow Lane, finishing just before Elliot Street in Hamilton.

Marathon Derby:

“It follows the same initial route as the cycle race, continuing through Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road, turning right on Dutton Avenue and left onto North Street.

Junior Classic Run:

“The run starts in Hamilton [refer to the Corporation of Hamilton Traffic Order for street closures] and proceeds to Cedar Avenue, Marsh Folly Road, right on Dutton Avenue, and left onto North Street.

Parade Route:

“The parade starts in Hamilton [refer to COH Traffic Order for street closures], continues to Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road, and finishes on Dutton Avenue.

Traffic Control:

“All traffic, including cyclists but excluding official vehicles, Department of Transportation buses, and emergency vehicles, will be diverted off the race routes between 7:30 am and 12:00 pm.

“Depending on the situation, the Bermuda Police Service may allow traffic to travel in the opposite direction of the race runners, except on Burnt House Hill, Harbour Road, and The Lane between Stowe Hill and Crow Lane Roundabout.

Road Closures:

“The following roads will be closed to all traffic during the event times:

“Somerset Road: Closed from Warren Simmons Community Field to Somerset Bridge.

“Middle Road [Sandys, Southampton, Warwick]: Closed from Somerset Bridge to Burnt House Hill.

“Burnt House Hill, Harbour Road, The Lane: Closed from Middle Road in Warwick to North Roundabout in Paget.

“Trimingham Hill: Closed from South Road to Crow Lane except for buses.

“Crow Lane, Stowe Hill, Pitt’s Bay Road, Canal Road, Cedar Avenue, Marsh Folly Road, Dutton Avenue, Black Watch Pass: Various closures with specific conditions.

No Parking:

“No parking will be allowed on the following roads from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. unless otherwise specified

  • Burnt House Hill, Harbour Road, The Lane
  • Stowe Hill
  • Pitt’s Bay Road
  • Marsh Folly
  • Dutton Avenue
  • Cedar Avenue
  • Marsh Folly Road [from Woodbourne Avenue to Bermudiana Road]
  • Cedar Avenue [from Marsh Folly Road to Laffan Street]
  • North Street [from St John's Road to Dutton Avenue]
  • Black Watch Pass [from Marsh Folly Road to North Street]

“Residents will be allowed access to some areas during the restricted times.”
