BSSF Primary School Track And Field Results
Harrington Sound Primary School successfully defended their Bermuda School Sports Federation Primary School Track and Field Championship title.
A spokesperson said, “The Smith’s School was nearly 100 points ahead of their nearest rival school. Harrington Sound accumulated 321 combined points during the meet. Warwick Academy finished in second with 226.5 points while Saltus Grammar School came in third with 181.5 points. Harrington Sound was named overall girls champion school with 241 points. Bermuda High School was second on the day with 151 points while Warwick capped off the top three with 114 points. Saltus led all schools in the overall boys division with 141.5 points. Warwick finished second with 112.5 while Prospect Primary finished third with 85 points.
“Three records fell during the final day of competition. Naomi Macguinness broke two records in the space of an hour. The Warwick Academy student first broke a 23 year old record in the 800 meters after crossing the line in 2:30.66. The former record holder, Jarita Dill was in attendance and was very gracious in presenting the new record holder with her winning gold medal. Macguinness returned to the track in less than an hour to shatter the Randy Benjamin Open Mile with a new time of 5:25.57. Macguinness lowered the former record of 5:49.30 by almost 24 seconds. Aalirah Daniels then broke her own record in the under 10 girls 200 meters with a time of 28.59 seconds. The Harrington Sound runner bested her previous record of 29.15 which she set last week in qualifying.
“Tamera Smith was named champion girl in the under 9 girls division. The Harrington Sound runner won the 200 meters and finished second in both the 400 and 800 meter events. School mate Kamari Brooks-Gibbons was a double winner after winning the 400 and 800 meters. Harrington Sound wasn’t done collecting points in the division as Rayven Weeks claimed gold in the 100 meters and captured silver in the 200 meters. Conor Kane from Saltus Grammar School was crowned champion boy in the under 9 division after winning gold in the 400 and 800 meter races while finishing sixth in the 100 meters. A trio of Port Royal Primary athletes finished behind Kane. Shammaah Darko won the 100 and 200 meter races while Ethan Anderson claimed double bronze in the 400 and 800 meters. Desani Samuels finished second in the 200 meters and third in 100.
“Dalton E. Tuckers Yara Muhammad was crowned Champion girl in the under 10 division edging record breaker Daniels by a point. Muhammad captured gold in the 400 and 800 meters while also finishing third in the 200 meters. Daniels followed up her 200 meter win by also winning the 100 meters and claiming bronze in the long jump. Jordyn Lewis won a collection of medals after finishing second in the 200 and long jump and third in the 100 meters Prospect Primary’s Zavion Trott won both the 200 and 400 meters to go along with a silver in the 100 meters in winning under 10 champion boy. Elliot Primary’s Gabriel Outerbridge finished second in the 200 meters and cricketball throw and third in the 100 meters. Harrington Sound’s Kahleef Daley also got on the podium in three events after finishing second in the long jump and third in the 400 and 800 meters.
“Ava St. Luce collected a gold medal haul in winning the Over 10 girls champion title. St. Luce on the 100 and 200 meter sprint double. She also collected gold in the long jump and relay. The Harrington Sound student was also named the Toby Colombe Memorial top performer of the meet. Teammate Zaya Zuill also impressed on the track winning the 400 meters and finishing second in the 200 and 800 meters. Macguinness added bronze medals in the 400 meters and cricketball throw. West End Primary’s Jemani Scott ran his way to the champion boy title in the over 10 division. Scott won the 200 meters and finished second in the 400 and 800 meters. Mazaii Tucker from Victor Scott was the only double winner in the division after he placed first in the 100 meters and long jump.”
