Premier David Burt conducted a site visit of the Brookfield Place development.

A Government spokesperson said, “Earlier this week [Apr. 29], Premier David Burt conducted a site visit of the Brookfield Place development with members of the company’s leadership team – Brian Kingston, CEO, Real Estate; Charlie Howe, Vice President Investments, Real Estate; and Lou Maroun.

“With the demolition of the site nearing conclusion, construction on the project is expected to start shortly and will generate around 200 jobs during the two-year construction phase. Once completed the 91 Front Street location will see a Class A commercial office building with supporting ground floor retail space.

“It will also house the global headquarters for Brookfield Reinsurance and each of Brookfield’s Bermuda-domiciled listed affiliates: Brookfield Property Partners, Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, Brookfield Renewable Partners and Brookfield Business Partners.

“Premier Burt was joined by the Minister of Transport, Wayne Furbert for the brief site tour.”

A Brookfield spokesperson said, “Given our long-standing presence and investment in Bermuda, we’re excited to start construction on this state-of-the-art building and become part of the fabric of the downtown Hamilton area.”

How is this construction going to “generate around 200 jobs?” Are 200 unemployed people going to be trained and hired to work on this project?

“Are 200 unemployed people going to be trained and hired to work on this project”

Well, the PLP Government just finished training 17 Bermudians how to become welders (https://bernews.com/2024/05/welding-national-certification-presentation/). I suppose the other 183 will be brought in from overseas as usual.

      • Hilarious! says:

Only 9 of the 17 welders work in the private construction sector which means not a job created because they are already employed. The remaining 8 work in Government departments, again, employed and not a job created.

        PLP math, go figure!

      • Hey says:

but those people already had jobs.

        So, 200 from overseas!
