Crystal Holdipp On Gospel Singing Return

May 14, 2024 | 0 Comments

Bermudian gospel singer Crystal Holdipp has released several Christian cover songs on a popular singing platform to celebrate her return to performing.

Ms Holdipp took a four-year break from singing after being diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety, which she said she has suffered from since childhood.

She recently covered worship songs such as Cece Winan’s Jesus You’re Beautiful and Lauren Daigle’s You Say on StarMaker – an international karaoke competition platform – and received many votes from the public.

“There was a long period when I wasn’t really singing publicly in church or front of people,” Ms Holdipp told Bernews.

“During my break, I only sang occasionally for online ministry engagements in preaching and praying. I’ve just started putting myself out there again.”

Ms Holdipp, who has recorded songs in studios and travelled to Atlanta, Ohio and Nashville to perform, said her distinctive voice lost some of its trademark power during her break from singing.

“My voice at that time wasn’t the same as my original powerful voice,” she said. “I didn’t have treatment for my vocal cords. God miraculously restored my voice!

“I’m happy to use my God-given gift again. It’s lovely to get more exposure and visibility [on StarMaker], and hopefully, I can use my voice to inspire others.”

Ms Holdipp said she has made the StarMaker rankings 62 times, 37 at number one, 54 in the top five, and 56 in the top ten.

“It’s a platform for aspiring singers who want to make it,” said Ms Holdipp, who started singing in church during childhood.

“You cover songs, put them out on the platform, and they get voted on. Some people have been offered recording deals and become successful off the back of StarMaker.”
