Scott Barnes Aims For Stars Series Glory

Karting driver Scott Barnes will aim to build on his impressive display in the Stars Championship Series opening round when he races in round two, the King of the Castle, in New Castle, Indiana, this weekend.
Barnes made a flying start to the series at Queen City Gambit, held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina last month, winning three of his four races.
The 39-year-old competes in the Shifter Masters class, which includes two engine packages – KZ and ROK.
Barnes’ kart is fitted with a ROK engine, which means he can compete for the ROK and overall titles.
“We had a strong first round and will look to build on that,” Barnes told Bernews.
“This track will be a bit tougher as it has longer straightaways, which is a slight disadvantage for us because our ROK motor is a bit slower than the KZs.
“We’ll try and salvage as many points for the overall championship, a top three would be the goal, and win my ROK class.
“We proved last time that our motor package can win.”
Barnes, who represents Team Maranello USA and Carlos Motors, expects to be up against as many as 20 karts in the overall class.
“This is a new series for me, and although I’ve raced some of the guys before, there are several new faces,” said Barnes, who has qualifying on Friday, two heats on Saturday, and the final on Sunday.
“We know we can run with these guys, and confidence is a huge thing in racing.”
Barnes is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, representing their Powerade brand.
