Governor Attends Newport Bermuda Race Start
This week, Governor Rena Lalgie attended the 2024 Newport-Bermuda Race events in Rhode Island, with over 160 boats setting sail from Newport for the 635-nautical mile journey to Bermuda.
Government House said, “This week, Her Excellency the Governor attended events leading up to the start of the Newport-Bermuda Race in Rhode Island.
“The Governor attended a Commodores Dinner hosted by the Cruising Club of America and the New York Yacht Club and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club; and met U.S Congressman for Rhode Island’s 1st congressional district, Mr Gabe Amo.
“The Governor inspected the two Bermuda-based yachts; Nasty Medicine skippered by Dr Stephen Sherwin, and Crossfire skippered by Mr Brian Hillier, before they set off on the 636-mile journey to Bermuda.
“The Governor joined invited dignitaries and thousands of members of the public at Fort Adams State Park to watch the start of the 53rd Newport-Bermuda Race.”
