Archers Miss Out On Olympic Spot In Paris
Bermuda has just missed out on an archery spot at the Olympic Games in Paris after Bhutan and El Salvador were awarded universality slots instead.
The National Archery Association of Bermuda hoped to be represented at the Olympics for the first time, with Camerin Pickering and Jaydon Roberts both making excellent showings in international competitions, hitting the minimum score requirement of 640 in the men’s recurve competition.
However, the International Olympic Committee’s Tripartite Commission has handed the two universality quote places, which promote sports development and equal opportunities to emerging nations, to Bhutan [Lam Dorji] and El Salvador [Oscar Ticas].
A post on the National Archery Association of Bermuda social media page said, “Well done to Bermuda’s archery team. Our journey has been a great one and there is more to come. While we did not secure a spot for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the preparations for 2028 Games begins. Well done Camerin Pickering, Jaydon Roberts and Bernard Wade III.”
