Island Fresh 5K Race Set For June 23

The Island Fresh 5K Food Run and Walk will once again be raising funds for the Eliza DoLittle Society [TEDS] on Sunday, June 23.
Organised by siblings Hayley and Liam Evans, the family orientated event will start in the Arboretum at 8 am [walk] and 8.30 am [run] and feature prizes, a DJ, and goody bag, including a running vest.
Hayley, the owner of Island Fresh, a meal box delivery company, and her brother Liam, a Bermuda footballer, who runs Evans Performance Training, held the inaugural race in 2022 and envision it becoming an annual event.
Rather than waste excess food, Hayley said Island Fresh has for the past few years donated fresh, canned and frozen food to the TEDS Food Pantry in Warwick.
TEDS secures purchased and donated food from local wholesalers, grocers, farmers, businesses, community organisations and individuals and provides it to the island’s disadvantaged.
“We try to be very precise with ordering our ingredients [at Island Fresh] to avoid waste on our end as well,” Hayley told Bernews.
“We did notice that although we tried, we did tend to have extra and that is when we discovered the Eliza Dolittle Society.
“We thought this was an excellent way to avoid disposing of fresh ingredients while simultaneously giving back to our community.
“This is when my brother and I thought of expanding that awareness and reach by hosting our ‘Food Run.’”
Hayley, who said the event took a hiatus last year as she was overseas, added: “Races bring the community together, while also promoting getting active and raising awareness.”
Liam, who plays for North Village and the senior national team, specialises in strength and conditioning training and works extensively with junior teams and athletes on the island.
