Video: 2024 Newport Bermuda Race Start

This afternoon [June 21], just over 160 boats set sail from Newport as the 53rd Newport Bermuda Race got underway, with the fleet making the 635-nautical mile journey to Bermuda.

“The first night is expected to be slow as storms affecting southern New England have dampened the wind. It’s a race to get away from land and into the next prevailing ocean breeze and Gulf Stream current,” a spokesperson said.
