Dale Butler: Rosalie Gardens’ Film Fest

Rosalie Gardens at 35 Angle Street, opposite Hubies, under the banner of Atlantic Publishing House, is pleased to release its first major activity for the summer season.
The Rosalie Gardens Heartbeat Film Festival will take place at 8.00pm each night with the following:
- a short history of the area
- a tour of the gardens that won two national awards last year, followed by the movie of the night
It is recommended that you call or email to book your seat at 595-9841 or daledbutler@gmail.com. Parking is available on the corner of Court and Angle Street, opposite the PLP.
Admission is $10, with part proceeds going to the charity Removing Obstacles: #T2186. Complimentary drinks to all who attend. Pay when you arrive. Because this is an outdoor event, a decision will be made each morning of the event by 11.00am if rain is forecast. so it is critical that organizers receive your number and email.
The films are as follows:
- Monday, July 15th – “Gold Flakes and Dynamite”
Incarceration on Paget Island [film in development]. The Unknown Story. As told and shown by Eugene Stovell. Lots of young boys were sent to Paget Island as punishment for breaking the law. Eugene Stovell gives us an insight into the good and bad.
- Tuesday, July 16th – “Flip the Script”
Lawyer Larry Scott uses his book It’s Only 4% as a catalyst for this critical discussion on crime and gun violence. The film contains comments from inmates.
- Saturday, July 20 – “Havana Tap”
Mitchell “Live Wires” Trott takes Havana, Cuba by storm with his tap dancing until he meets an 84-year-old tap dance legend. In this insightful film about Havana and the legacy of this teacher, you will see and hear the impact it had on our Bermudian entertainer.
Three additional films will be shown later in the year.
Rosalie Gardens is also preparing for a few jazz shows starting on July 27th. Details will be released soon and you can be the first to find them by sending an email to the address listed above.
