Young To Host ‘The LinkUp’ STEM Conference
Kameron Young will be hosting her first virtual conference, The LinkUp, scheduled for August 9th via Zoom, which “seeks to create greater connections for girls and women in STEM.”
A spokesperson said, “Earmarked to graduate this July with her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Queen Mary University of London, Bermudian Kameron Young seeks to create greater connections for girls and women in STEM. Kameron will achieve this objective by hosting her first ever virtual conference entitled, The LinkUp on Friday, August 9, 2024 via Zoom.
“The LinkUp will feature seven panels with an array of dynamic guests joining in from London, the United States and Bermuda. The moderator describes her virtual conference as “everything she wished she had access to while growing up in Bermuda as a young girl.”
“When I was first introduced to the subject of STEM, there were limited resources available,” explained Kameron Young, the Podcast Host of Kameron’s Lab Dive-In. “From career options to even courses, I always felt like something was missing—or better, there was more to learn. But, in order to achieve further knowledge and experiences, I knew I had to create those opportunities.”
“My conference, The LinkUp, feels like I have come full circle,” Ms. Young further explained. “From competing in robotic competitions during my senior years at Bermuda High School for Girls to attending technology conferences over the past year, I have met some interesting people. These same individuals, and even a talking robot, have kindly agreed to collaborate with me to make my dreams a reality in the form of this virtual STEM conference.”
The spokesperson said, “This free event will be in an interview format for the initial 45 minutes for each panel, followed by a Live 15-minute question and answer period where attendees can speak directly to the panelists. These dynamic topics include:
“How To Raise a Robot” at 10:15 am to 11:15 am London time / 6:15 am to 7:15 am Bermuda time
“Incorporating robots into our daily lives seems to be closer to reality than we think. Panel features: Marine Chamoux, HRI Software Engineering Manager & Product Owner at United Robotics. Dr. Thilina Lalitharatne, Lecturer in Robotics & Mechatronics at Queen Mary University of London. Bermudian Darren Burchall, CEO of Great4Learning and Computer Science teacher.

“Diary of a Girl Boss” at 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm London time / 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm Bermuda time

This virtual round-table features Balvinder Dhillon, fellow student at Queen Mary University of London and President of Hyperlink. Jeevana Thavarajah, Founder of Scientia News, Masters Student in Stem Cells & Regenerative Therapies at Kings College London. Sophie Trevillion, Service Desk Analyst at RenaissanceRe, London.
“Special guest appearance of Captcha, a humanoid social robot, created by Tinnex He and Vlad Grankovsky of Hidoba Research, will be an exciting experience for attendees. Captcha will talk to Kameron and the conference attendees Live from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm London time [2:00 pm to 2:30 pm Bermuda time]. A unique feature of Captcha, as a robot, is that he can talk on his own whereby he is not pre-programmed to say anything. This is made possible because Captcha has a language learning model, or LLM, that allows him to speak when he is asked questions. This robot can also speak five different languages and has a programed personality.
“AI Questions Your Future Employer Wants Answers To” at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm London time / 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm Bermuda time

This conference provides a vital platform for aspiring female scientists to network, grow, and thrive in their respective fields.”
“Supporting this initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering the next generation of women in science,” added Dr. Weldon. “We are excited to contribute to creating an environment where young women can inspire and be inspired, paving the way for future innovations and advancements.”
The podcast host is extremely appreciative of the support of these two Bermuda-based companies. Ms. Young shared, “I am very thankful to both Treefrog Consulting and CariGenetics for believing in my vision. Fluent in both Spanish and English, Kameron credits her grandfather for sparking her interests in technology and engineering.
“This aspiring surgeon, with a focus on robots, also launched a STEM podcast last October called, Kameron’s Lab Dive-In for STEM students and enthusiasts. Kameron’s Lab Dive-In podcast can be found on Spotify and Apple directories; including the YouTube Channel of the same name.
