KPMG in Bermuda announced the release of its latest Impact Report – Together towards tomorrow – “highlighting the firm’s progress on the four pillars that keep moving us towards a more sustainable future: Governance, People, Planet, and Prosperity.”
A spokesperson said, “The report reveals that in 2023 KPMG in Bermuda contributed over $1.2 million in scholarships, financial giving, pro bono work, and community service hours to support our island community.”
“To achieve a better tomorrow, we must work together with trust, transparency, and integrity. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our dedicated staff, whose unwavering commitment drives our mission of advancing corporate citizenship and leaving a positive legacy for future generations,” says James Berry, Chief Executive Officer.
The spokesperson said, “Our Impact at a glance:
- Governance is fundamental to our operations. Our Impact Report highlights our unwavering commitment to the highest standards of ethical conduct and accountability. This year, KPMG Global Values Week was launched, highlighting our five core Values: Integrity, Excellence, Courage, Together, and For Better. Through inspiring events, all staff celebrated our shared culture and Values and were encouraged to consider how they are living our Values every day.
- We continue to prioritize investment in our People. Recognizing our people as our greatest asset, our report highlights our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, promoting employee well-being, healthy living, and investing in continuous learning and development:
- Diversity: We have a diverse workforce, consisting of 51% female and 49% male employees, and in October 2023 we were excited to announce the promotion of 3 of our female leaders to Partner – Anam Khan [Advisory], Sarah Robey [Tax], and Felicia Wilsen [Audit]. Our employees come from 30 countries worldwide, and this year, we welcomed new hires from 14 different countries, adding to our already extensive cultural representation.
- The Lift Off Program: The Program has helped launch many successful careers. As part of this program, we have awarded scholarships totaling $280,000 over the past five years.
- Highlighting our dedication to environmental responsibility, KPMG in Bermuda is committed to minimizing its ecological footprint and creating a positive impact on the Planet. This year, major office renovations enhanced our workplace culture and environmental impact. The modern, open-plan design promotes well-being with improved natural light, ergonomic workstations, and reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions, aligning with our sustainability goals.
- Our commitment to Prosperity encompasses educational outreach, environmental and health initiatives, and dedicated financial support for education. Our Impact Report underscores our efforts to enhance community lives through partnerships with charities and promote sustainable business practices among clients. In 2023 these included:
- Make a Difference Day: This year over 100 KPMG in Bermuda employees made their way to Waterstart on Burt Island for the annual community volunteer day. Employees supported the charity with initiatives such as coastal clean-up, wood chipping, landscape clearing, clay bay maintenance, inventory management, and seagrass restoration. We also donated $40,000 over a 4-year period to help support the rebuild of their facilities on the island.
- Relay for Life: May has become an important month to raise money for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Leading up and throughout the month of May, employees participated, donated, and supported many events including wine tasting, a bake sale, karaoke night, quiz night, a golf day, and the exciting “walk the plank” challenge. The fundraising leading up to the Relay for Life event, along with sales of popcorn, drinks, hot dogs, and raffle tickets for large gift baskets, resulted in a total of $12,500 raised in 2023.
“We deeply appreciate our staff’s unwavering commitment and dedication, which have been instrumental in our firm’s achievements and community service. Their hard work and passion exemplify our leadership within our community, guiding us towards a better world for generations to come,” said Steve Woodward, Corporate Citizenship Committee Chair.
The spokesperson said, “Within our annual Impact Report, covering January to December 2023, we hope you see the efforts we go to ensure change is being made as we work — Together, For Better.”
