Cheryl Packwood said participating in one of the most awe-inspiring events of her life was taking part in a Zoom call with 44,000 other Black women who are now mobilized to help Vice President Kamala Harris win the US presidential election. She said being a part of this historic call gave her “shivers.”

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the “Win With Black Women” Zoom call featured prominent speakers such as political strategist Donna Brazile, activist LaTosha Brown, and Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley, Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, and Jasmine Crockett.

An impressive 44,000 women participated in the event in support of Vice President Kamala Harris. During the call, they successfully raised $1.5 million for her campaign, showcasing Black women leaders’ powerful unity and influence across various sectors.

Reverend Bernice King, the daughter of civil rights leader Rev Martin Luther King Jr. and CEO of The King Center, also participated and said that despite voting since she was 18, she had never publicly endorsed a candidate until now. During the call, she expressed her full support, saying, “I’m 100% in her corner.”

Ms Packwood said, “It was a revival,” and the experience was “amazing.”

She was invited to the link through two chat groups. One was from her Black female classmates from Bronx High School of Science; the other was created by herself and two others from Harvard Law School. They quickly brought in Michelle Ifill—a world-renowned DEI consultant—and it includes other luminaries like Areva Martin, a CNN commentator who has authored several books.

Ms. Packwood said she tried to join the Zoom call at 8:30 pm, but it was already at its 1,000-person capacity. She had a message to try again at 8:45pm, but it was still at capacity. Zoom was working to keep increasing capacity because of the event’s popularity.

“I got on when there was about 10,000 women and that was about 9:15,” Ms. Packwood said. “And the call went on to about 2am. The call was invigorating. It was charged. Sunday, for me, was this amazing day.”

Earlier Sunday, she was supposed to attend the fourth annual Harvard Law School Black Alumnae High Tea in New York. Before the Tea, Ms. Packwood participated in a luncheon with Ms. Martin, also held at the same venue where Ms. Martin was speaking.

Near 2pm, the news broke that President Biden was dropping out of the presidential race, and Ms. Ifill, who was moderating the panel discussion at the luncheon, called for a break.

Ms. Packwood said, “The atmosphere in the room went from ‘this is terrible’ and concern, to excitement and smiles that Kamala would be the nominee.”

She said the discussion for the Tea immediately changed to talk about Vice President Harris. “There was this energy. We can do this. She will inspire young women.

“Then, while we were having tea, the link to the Zoom call at 8:30pm went out.

“When I got on the call, and I saw the excitement, the energy, and the belief that we can really inspiring beyond anything that I’ve felt in so long.”

She said this 44,000-strong group of Black women came out of the Zoom call with, “We just not have to advocate for Kamala Harris, but also protect her because the language and the attacks that are going to come for her are just going to be terrible.”

Ms. Packwood said the attacks had already started. However, Vice President Harris was incredibly qualified and ready to be president of the United States.

She said it was fascinating to watch as donations to the Harris campaign kept rolling in throughout the call, reaching $600,000 in the first two hours before settling in at $1.5 million.

Ms Packwood added that during their call, it was reported that Black men would organize their own calls. Now, the Hispanics and Latinos will have their own call. This is inspiring and historic.

“To be a part of this historic call gave me shivers.

“We can get her to the White House.”

  1. Hilarious says:

Did any one of those 44,000 black women ask Harris when she would pay reparations to the descendants of the 200+ slaves (according to her father) owned by an ancestor in Jamaica? Will she pardon all the black men and women she sent to prison? What about supporting the diversion of state & federal funds supporting low-income black families to fund food, housing, healthcare, education, etc., on track to reach an estimated 10 MILLION illegals invading the USA under her watch? What about supporting illegals to vote in elections and diluting the black vote? Those are just off the top of my head.

    From another website:
Below are 17 examples of Harris’ far-left record:

    1. Co-sponsored legislation to protect illegal immigrants from deportation
    2. Backed Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All legislation
    3. Backed banning private health insurance
    4. Supported giving taxpayer-funded coverage to illegal immigrants
    5. Supported banning fracking
    6. Backed defunding the police
    7. Compared ICE to the KKK
    8. Wanted to ban plastic straws
    9. Defended banning offshore drilling
    10. Wanted to “undo” the Trump administration’s border security, taking 94 executive actions in their first 100 days to rescind nearly every Trump-era measure
    11. Supported decriminalizing illegal border crossings
    12. Said she wouldn’t “treat” illegal aliens as “criminals”
    13. Called for “starting [ICE] from scratch”
    14. Argued that temporarily closing the border violated federal law
    15. Raised money for the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a far-left organization that pays to bail out of jail violent criminals, including accused murderers and rapists.
    16. Supported Los Angeles’s cuts to their police department
    17. Called efforts to add more police to the streets “wrongheaded thinking”
