Royal Bermuda Regiment Chainsaw Course
The Royal Bermuda Regiment is hosting an ongoing Chainsaw Courses, in collaboration with Kingswood Training and Lantra.
A spokesperson said, “Led by a team of experienced UK instructors comprising of Mr. Graham Dawdry, Mr. Matt Moss, and Mr. Steve Cackett, this comprehensive course aims to equip soldiers with essential skills in chainsaw maintenance and operation.
“The current cohort of 16 dedicated soldiers were actively engaged in the NPTC 201 Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting Course, mastering the intricacies of basic maintenance and cleaning of chainsaws, learning to disassemble, assess, and ensure the smooth functioning of the equipment.
“In a bid to boost their capabilities, the participants will soon embark on Unit 303 – Individual Windblown course. This segment will equip them with the expertise to safely process fallen trees, navigate hazardous scenarios, and effectively utilize hand winches for tree removal.
“Highlighting the progress thus far, the Regiment has successfully completed Unit 201, setting the stage for an upcoming immersive dive into Unit 303 next week.
“As the course progresses, participants can anticipate not only honing their skills but also earning two valuable qualifications upon completion. The endeavor underscores the Regiment’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety, expertise, and excellence within its ranks.
“One of the remarkable highlights of this endeavor is the enthusiasm exhibited by Corporal [Cpl] Evans, a seasoned soldier with 8 years of service. From his previous role as A Company and B Company Section commander to his current position as a Training Wing Recruit Camp instructor, Cpl Evans exemplifies a commitment to continuous growth and learning. His motivation to join the Chainsaw course stems from a deep-rooted desire to expand his skill set significantly.
“In an exclusive interview, Cpl Evans expressed his fervor for the course, citing the prestigious “City & Guilds” official level 2 certification as a major driving force. Recognizing the global recognition and career opportunities that accompany this certification, Cpl Evans encourages aspiring participants to approach the course with meticulous attention to detail, a keen adherence to instructions, and above all, a steadfast commitment to safety practices.
“Emphasizing the course as a gateway to acquiring valuable skills and advancing career prospects, Cpl Evans underscores the importance of seizing the opportunity to maximize one’s learning experience.
