Erica Hawley Sets National Record In 5K
Erica Hawley has set a new national record in the women’s 5k at the Firecracker 5K in Fort Collins in Colorado yesterday [July 4].
Hawley, who will compete in the triathlon at the Olympic Games in Paris this month, finished in 17min 09sec.
“A nice little tune-up pre-Paris,” Hawley wrote on Instagram yesterday.
“And it got me super pumped to get in race mode again. I had the chance to race in the elite field here, and managed to snag a little altitude PR of 17:09.
“And what’s cooler? I broke a 42-year-old record for the Bermuda women’s road 5k! [feeling thankful that Flora Duffy hasn’t done many road running races haha].
“I know it’s America’s day, but I’m feeling extra proud to represent Bermuda at every level of competition. Next one: the big dance.”
