BUEI Joins “Cash, Trash, Bash” Fundraiser
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] said they are “thrilled to be a part of this year’s ‘Cash Trash Bash’ fundraiser.”
A spokesperson said, “In its seventh year, this annual marine clean, led by Karen Plianthos and her family, raises awareness for ocean conservation and has removed close to 15,000 pounds of trash from our local marine environment since its inception.
“From August 5th to September 5th, the Plianthos family and friends, Karen’s mom Louise Jones, and volunteers are taking part in daily marine clean-ups, removing trash from Bermuda’s beautiful ocean, beaches and coastlines. For every one-dollar donation, one pound of trash is collected. This year’s goal is for volunteers to collect a minimum of 2204.62 pounds – or one tonne – of trash from local waters by September 5th.
“All funds raised from the 2024 Cash. Trash. Bash. will be shared equally between BUEI, Bermuda registered charity # 326, and international non-profit, The Eternal Forest, in northern Wales.
“Proceeds from the campaign directly support BUEI’s mission to nurture an appreciation for the ocean around Bermuda through Education, Exploration, and Experiences relating to our ocean. Together, working with community partners like Karen and her family, we are developing future generations of environmental stewards and ocean advocates.”
“Education, whether it be on the state of our oceans or what you as an individual can do to help is so incredibly important. Ultimately, I hope that I can inspire others to do something that is going to pivot shift us towards a better environmental future for our children.” Karen Plianthos, Environmentalist & Founder of Cash, Trash, Bash, said.
“At BUEI, our job is to connect learning and doing so the ocean around Bermuda is understood, loved, and protected. The more we learn about our ocean and the role each one of us can play in protecting it, the more hope there will be for the future.” Karla Lacey, BUEI CEO, said.
The spokesperson said, “Visit www.BUEI.bm/join-support to donate today and learn how you can volunteer to help with the marine clean-up between now and September 5th.”
