“From 10:30am to 2:30pm, the community can enjoy interactive activities and displays on water conservation, art stations, and a ‘Kids Hour’ style book reading and short film viewing. Participation in all activities for this event, including admission to the Ocean Discovery Centre, is FREE for all ages to enjoy!

“Our World Water Day ‘Kids Hour Saturday’ will take place at 11am and 2pm, with each hour featuring the screening of short films followed by a book reading for children aged 5-12 years. To reflect World Water Day theme, the short films being shown during the ‘Kids Hour’ are: “Water Water Everywhere” and “The Story of Bottled Water.” Our first short film focuses on the science of water both as a natural resource, and as a major necessity of life on Earth. Our second film, “The Story of Bottled Water,” dives into and the mountains of plastic waste it produces and asks viewers to make a personal commitment to support “investments in clean, available tap water for all.”

“‘Kids Hour’ will also include a reading of two picture books: ‘Drop: An Adventure Through the Water Cycle’ by Emily Kate Moon, and ‘Watch Over Our Water’ by Lisa Bullard. The former follows its titular character, Drop, on a journey through the water cycle. From rain clouds to thousand-year-old glaciers, this book is filled with compelling artwork, humorous tangents, and fascinating facts about water. The later book, ‘Watch Over Our Water,’ is a part of the Planet Protectors series; teaching young readers how they can help protect the environment.

“The day will also feature a one-hour presentation by the Bermuda Youth Delegation at 12:30 pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium. Their presentation, entitled “Ignite Change, Amplify Potential,” will highlight sustainable development goals and solutions and include an audience Q&A session.

“Throughout the day, hands-on activities will include a “follow the water drop game” and a plastic bottle cap art station in BUEI’s Lower Lobby and Education Centre. Visitors can share their water conservation ideas as water drops in our “idea cloud’ and learn more about Bermuda’s water supply in our Main Lobby.

“Please note that caregivers must stay on-site for the event.

“Space is limited and advance registration is encouraged. To register, please call 294-0204 or email giftshop@buei.bm.
