Video: Cire Bean Announces C36 Candidacy
[Updated] Cire Bean is holding a press conference this morning [August 22] at Sir John Swan’s office to announce his candidacy for the upcoming Constituency 36 Sandys North by-election. We will have additional information later on, and in the meantime the live video is below.
The 39-minute live video replay is below:
Update: A flyer released at the press conference stated, “Cire Bean is a dedicated leader and passionate advocate for youth development and community service in Bermuda. Born and raised in Somerset, with formative years spent in Bob’s Valley, Darrell’s Island, and Boaz Island, Cire Bean has deep roots in the local community. A product of West End Primary School, Sandy’s Secondary Middle School, and the Berkeley Institute, Cire Bean showed an early commitment to making a difference by founding Payakid while still in high school. This innovative social enterprise provides job opportunities for students aged 13 to 17, steering them away from antisocial behaviour and crime by partnering with local businesses and community members. For this impactful work, Cire Bean was honoured with the Agent of Change award.
“At 18, Cire Bean enlisted in the Royal Bermuda Regiment, where he served for three years before commissioning as an officer after training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Over the course of his military career, Lieutenant Bean has participated in numerous deployments and training missions, including the training of soldiers in the newly formed regiments of Turks and Caicos and the Cayman Islands. Currently, Lieutenant Cire Bean also serves as Honorary Aide-de-Camp to Her Excellency, the Governor of Bermuda.
“Beyond the military, Cire Bean is deeply involved in efforts to support young people and individuals with support needs, working closely with organisations dedicated to these causes. Lieutenant Cire Bean’s passion for empowering others and commitment to public service continues to drive his efforts to make Bermuda a better place for all.”
So is John Swan the Party Leader for the Independents, who are allegedly not a Party?
I see Sir John as a mentor. A well seasoned politician willing to encourage younger blood to get involved.
Good for him.
When PLP candidates are announced, the Leader is usually there.
When OBA/UBP candidates have traditionally been announced, it’s been by their leader, although this year they haven’t had rollouts.
So, for Sir John to be there, and answering questions, it definitely looks like he is more of a leader than a mentor. He should have taken a backseat and let Cire have his day.
The UBP was dissolved in 2011. Please try to learn something about Bermuda and its history.
And if there was a successor party to the UBP it would be the UBPLP, with 2 former UBP leaders as sitting MPs right now.
As a white voter which you clearly are keep on playing dumb everyone knows it the same party. Stuck on stupid is why the the obaUBP keep on losing.
You mean the history of how the UBP used black members to attract other blacks to the party? After the skeletons came out of the many closets they had to dissolved the party and change the name!
Gonna be sad for your party when they take the PLP’s votes lmfaoooooooo
Never heard of him. Accomplishments? Why do we perpetuate the lie that before 1965 there were all independents when the voting record indicates that 99 % of the time the white MCPs voted together and the few blacks voted together….but they were independent. Get elected today as an independent you get no budgetary consideration. No money no work in your area. Front page speeches maybe but still no problems solved. Hope new candidates know where parliament is and they should be asked if they have ever attended? The answers will shock you.
The last independent MP I can recall being elected (as opposed to an MP crossing the floor) was Stuart Hayward, and he only lasted one term.
A published record of current MPs attendance in the HOA
A record of how often some of them have actually had something to say how would be interesting as well.
My guess is that most are there to raise their hands when told to. Nothing more.
