Mosquera & Newton Compete In Jamaica
Bermuda made its debut at the 36th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship, with junior golfers Sienna Mosquera and Arman Newton competing individually and achieving notable finishes in Kingston, Jamaica.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Golf Association were represented at the 36th CAJGC for the first time ever as the BGA were recently accepted into the Caribbean Golf Association as an associate member.
“The CAJGC is primarily a team event with teams from Puerto Rico, Dominica Republic, Trinadad & Tobago, Bahamas, Barbados and Cayman Islands all being represented. Due to Bermuda’s associate status, they were only allowed to compete as individuals.
“Junior golfers, Sienna Mosquera and Arman Newton represented Bermuda and performed admirably with Newton capturing the runner’s up spot in the U15 Boys Division with rounds of 75, 77 and 75 and Mosquera narrowly missing out on a podium spot with an impressive 4th place finish in the U18 Girls Division with rounds of 81, 80 and 89 respectively.
“The 54-hole tournament was held at the Caymanas Golf Club in Kingston, Jamaica from August 7th – 9th. The pair played in the practice round on Tuesday, August 6th to familiarize themselves with the course layout and conditions. The par 72 course was quite narrow with an abundance of tree lined fairways and hilly terrain. The layout and extreme temperatures over the 4 days really challenged the juniors which they handled tremendously displaying focus and determination.
“The juniors were supported by BGA General Secretary, Darrin Lewis and parents Michael Newton and Leah and Paul Mosquera.”
