NMB To Host Event To Celebrate 50th Anniversary
The National Museum of Bermuda is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a fundraising party on October 5, 2024, supporting its educational and preservation efforts.
A spokesperson said, “The National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] is turning 50 this year! To celebrate this milestone, they are hosting a party on Saturday, October 5: “NMB’s 50th Birthday Bash: Celebrating Our History, Supporting Our Future: A Fundraising Party”. All proceeds will support the Museum’s education programmes, historic preservation efforts, research, exhibits and care of its collection of 80,000 objects related to Bermuda history and culture.
“NMB is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation created by the Bermuda National Trust in 1974 as the Bermuda Maritime Museum. The Museum has since expanded beyond its original mandate, which focused on maritime history and the restoration of Bermuda’s largest fort, The Keep, where the Museum is housed. Over the past five decades, a small, dedicated team of museum and heritage experts—along with Board members and individual and corporate volunteers— has transformed once-derelict ramparts, bastions, and historic buildings into a first-class Museum.
“NMB has also built Bermuda’s largest collection of historic objects, partnered with overseas and local institutions to carry out archaeological and historical research, and re-imagined historic military buildings as exhibition, education and community spaces, research labs, and event venues. With the support of the Government of Bermuda, the Museum acquired the Casemates complex in 2013, officially becoming the National Museum of Bermuda and growing from a 10- to a 16-acre property. The Museum continues to grow as a vital educational resource and steadfast community partner, elevating Atlantic World research and thought leadership as they shift how history is shared and taught in Bermuda, and aim to make learning Bermuda history part of every educational journey on Island.
“The 50th Birthday Bash will be a fun-filled celebration to meet and reconnect with long-standing and new friends: a celebration of the Museum’s history and future that will promote a better understanding of Bermuda history and NMB’s education and community programmes, preservation projects and research efforts.”
NMB Advancement Director, Katie Bennett, shared, “Don’t miss out on this spectacular event! Grab your tickets now at www.nmb.bm/birthdaybash and choose from three ticket levels.
