Adam Prunty is set to take on the 100K Thames Path Challenge in the UK in an effort to raise money for a scholarship, with his employer MS Reinsurance pledging to match the donation amount up to the goal of $10,000.

A spokesperson said, “Adam Prunty, a Pricing Actuary for MS Reinsurance, is planning to undertake the 100K Thames Path Challenge on 14 September, and he’s inviting Bermuda to join him in supporting a worthy cause.

“By pushing himself to complete this grueling race, Adam challenges the community to pledge donations that will fund a new mathematics scholarship. Over 2,000 other participants will join him as they travel roughly 2.5 times the distance from Dockyard to Fort St. Catherine in only one day.

“This challenge will see participants set off at Bishop’s Park, Fulham and travel along the river Thames through Richmond, Hampton Court, Runnymede, and Windsor before ending at Mill Meadows, Henley-On-Thames.

“Mr. Prunty is no stranger to participating in foot races, having previously competed in a variety of races on the island including the AXA XL 5k Road Race, PwC Bermuda Marathon, Butterfield & Vallis 5K Race, Hannover Re Half Marathon, Bermuda Healthcare “Sir” Stanley Burgess 5K, RenaissanceRe 10-Mile Challenge, Ludwig Cann 10K Road Race, David Saul Memorial – Fidelity 5K Run and the Butterfield Mile Race to name a few. However, this challenge will be over twice as far as he has ever run before.

“Adam is aiming to raise $10,000 for a scholarship, with MS Reinsurance generously pledging to match the donation amount up to the goal of $10,000. This scholarship will be means-tested and administered through ABIC for a student going to college for Mathematical Studies. If you would like to donate towards this goal, please go to his GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/f/adams-ultra-challenge-for-abic-scholarship.

Wayne Smith, Executive Director of ABIC, said: “We are thrilled to support this initiative spearheaded by Adam Prunty, whose commitment to pushing himself to the limit in this intense test of endurance is truly inspiring. His dedication to creating opportunities for young Bermudians is matched by the generous support of ABIC member company MS Reinsurance, which has committed to matching the funds raised.

“By investing in this mathematics scholarship, talented students can have access to the resources needed to enter a field that is vital to the success of International Business in Bermuda. We encourage the community to join us in this effort by contributing to this worthy cause. Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of aspiring mathematicians in Bermuda.”

“Mathematics is the foundation of actuarial science, a field critical to Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance industries. Actuaries use their advanced mathematical and statistical skills to evaluate complex risks and predict financial outcomes, ensuring that companies can manage and mitigate potential financial consequences. This expertise makes actuaries highly sought after in Bermuda’s International Business sector.”
