The Food Justice Forum is set to host a ‘Thrift Kitchen Throwdown’ on September 30 and a panel discussion on October 16.

A spokesperson said, “The Food Justice Forum will launch shortly, a two-part event aimed at tackling Bermuda’s food security issues while promoting sustainable and environmentally conscious practices. With a focus on youth engagement, the forum brings together key voices to drive meaningful change in how the island approaches food waste, food insecurity, and mental health related to hunger.

“The first event, Thrift Kitchen Throwdown, will take place at The Loren on September 30, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, in observance of World Food Waste Day. This day-long event will focus on food efficiency, exploring how Bermuda can adopt more sustainable food practices.

“Young chefs, aged 15–35, will compete by creating innovative dishes from surplus ingredients, showcasing the role of the next generation in leading the charge toward a more sustainable food system. As Bermuda looks to reduce its environmental footprint, the competition encourages creativity and efficiency. Aspiring chefs can sign up to participate here.

“The second event will be held on October 16, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM at BUEI Bermuda in recognition of World Food Day. This session will focus on the pressing issues of food insecurity, homelessness, and mental health in relation to hunger. Panel discussions will bring together community leaders and experts to address the systemic causes of food insecurity and its far-reaching effects on the island’s most vulnerable populations. By fostering dialogue around these interconnected issues, the forum aims to inspire concrete actions and policy shifts.”
