Government Provide Energy Saving Tips
The Government said they are “committed to ensuring that it introduces solutions to assist hard working residents” and also encouraged residents to implement energy-saving measures.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Government of Bermuda is committed to ensuring that it introduces solutions to assist hard working residents. That’s why it has taken decisive action to alleviate the financial pressures related to increasing energy costs.
“Our recent decision to cut the tax on fuel by 60% underscores our commitment to doing all we can to reduce the burden of inflation. This action follows the steps taken two years ago to freeze fuel prices when they hit record highs globally, providing relief for Bermudian families, taxi drivers and minibus operators at the pump.
“We recognise that multiple factors, including fluctuating international energy markets, contribute to increased utility bills. While these factors are beyond our control, there are practical, cost-effective steps residents can take to better manage their electricity bills. Small changes can lead to significant savings.”
“With that in mind, residents are reminded and encouraged to implement the following energy-saving measures:
“Switch to Energy-Efficient Lighting: Replace all home lighting with energy-efficient LEDs. The Department of Energy’s LED giveaway initiative remains available at post offices across the Island. A single 60-watt equivalent LED used for five hours daily at our current kilowatt-hour prices saves $37 per year. With an LED’s expected life span of four to six years, consumers could save a minimum of $148 for each LED over a four-year lifespan. Four LEDs increase household savings to around $592 over a four-year lifespan.
“Be Mindful of Lighting Usage: Turn off lights in rooms that are not in use to conserve energy.
“Optimise Air Conditioning Settings: Set your air conditioning unit to the most efficient settings. Consider using the dehumidifier mode to reduce humidity and improve comfort, which may allow less frequent use of the cooling setting.
“Install a Timer on Your Water Heater: Use a timer to reduce your water heater’s operating hours. To save energy, keep it off at night or when the house is unoccupied.
“Unplug Idle Appliances: Unplug appliances and mobile chargers when not in use, as they can still draw power even when turned off.
“Invest in Energy-Efficient Appliances: When purchasing new appliances, consider models with higher energy efficiency ratings. Taking the time to explore energy-saving options can make a lasting impact on reducing your household electricity usage.
“Monitor Utility Bills: Always investigate any dramatic fluctuations in your utility billing to ensure accuracy.
“The Government of Bermuda is committed to helping every resident combat the rising energy expenses. By taking these steps, you can manage your electricity costs more effectively and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient energy future for Bermuda.

I wonder who the government got those outstanding ideas from and why no credit is even given to that brilliant person.
AN ECONOMIC OPPINION .
Here is another example of control from Government in disaray where who knows best. !
BERMUDA is very big business where very little trickles down .
The weathy pay the same tax rate as the poor working class.
That was a U.B.P policy, starting with import duty collected at sourse.
The working class pay payroll income tax when there is no income tax L.O.L.
Don’t bother trying solving that one the weathy have sold out and left the island already, with more to follow.
We all are living in the year 2024 where every thing is suposed to be better.
It hurts me to tell you all that is not so.
WE have a 20 % down turn .
10 % went to devalyation of out dollar.
a further 10 % to currency devaluation and price gouging and profit taking.
This island out in the middle of an ocean in a very sorry state of affairs .
You may ask is life better today than it was a year ago .
They don’t have to tell one another the answer to that.
With the current energy policy the Government wants to take us to go back exactly 85 years to what I call a half life , while they make very little consession them selves .
Tax relief works this way.
eg Incur start up taxes up to 100% then give a rebate of 60 %. they get to keep 40%. they are
are doing the same trick like they did in Old Blighty 61 year ago ,all with the thought that they are making consessions.
I am not buying in to that one and neither should you.
SAVINGS . it goes this way every drop of hot water that comes through from cold has to go through the heating process as the heating element kicks in at 100 % by the built in heaters thermostat which controls that.
Lighting does not take that much energy as say as the national stadium is lit up like a chrismas tree ever night, being one of many.
I am not happy with their recomended at least that was a good try, their thought is as we can not think for our selves living a half life recomendations ,where they carry on as usual.
Over and over again and again the government is told by its people. Bermuda is too expensive being the number of several reasonswhy our visitors do not get off the ship or at the airport for that matter.
Oh grief, this comes after the 24)% increase. Backwards as always..can t blame workers, it s nuts at top of tree and the ra? Who is also on the list
We can always go back to a keroseen lamp, stove no shoes and suger rashioning, sorry ! We got that already .
OUR YOUNG PEOPLE
I am sitting here looking out the window at our beautiful Bermuda with is dark blue water and the lazy clouds passing me by, and thinking what a beautiful island paradise we live in.
You can be part of it it it iall yours it does ot come frre you have to work hard for it .
I live in hopes that my computer does not fails me every time with spell check problems, got to blame it on something and or somebody. I spend many hours in suport of our seniors and the working class on Bernews , by doing so i find that i have failed our young people full well knowin i was once young.
Many of our young may think that we the older guys had it good , a little better, and very good .
Well ! people, that was not so, you may feel left out ,with the excuse of falling through the cracks that is also not so.
May I offer the few surgestions as it is you and only you that can make it all work, and that starts with your education .
You can dream and hope all you want which will get you no where ,also, may i ask how far up the ladder you realy want to go, as there is a practical limit to success and hapiness .
We are all some what differet from one another but the same in many ways.
What is the secret to education?
That fall into many sections , the big three are being good with your hands and the other is academic the third is a little bit of both.
Qualification and ability are most sort after in every and by business, towards that goal and desire it take hard work both in school and most certainly after school even to day seniors continue to educate them selves.
Why do so many people dislike reading the better books and even the daily news paper teaches English and not the language of the sreeet, meaning if you can not write there is no job waiting for you any where .
I have reached the limit of my own incompetance .
Howerver i am blesse with two good hands.
In conclusion till next time .
Every one need to deside what they want to be or to do in life also with a second skill on the side.
We have two choices either you work for you self or work for another.
We come into this world with nothing and we will leave it all behind with nothing.
The fun part is what you do with your life in between.
At the end of the yelow brick road is hard work made easy.
You are what are going to be .
or
You are what you want to be.
Choose wisely .
“When we build let us think that we build for ever and not for present delight alone
let it be such work as our father’s will thank us for ,as we lay stone on stone ————”.
“The Government of Bermuda is committed to ensuring that it introduces solutions to assist hard working residents.”
The vast majority of costs associated with producing and distributing electricity are beyond the ability of any government to control. Our government cannot control the cost of oil necessary to run the North Power Station. Our government cannot control the cost of copper or aluminium used in the cables to distribute electricity. Our government cannot control the cost of labour necessary to make Belco work.
The only things our government can do to “assist hard working residents” are provide accurate information on how to reduce consumption of electricity (and interestingly the information in this article came from a general “Government spokesperson”, not from the Department of Energy) or throw money we do not have at the cost electricity, such as by cutting taxes on the oil necessary to run the North Power Station or purchasing and then giving away LED lamps. The economic effect of those policies will not be reported until year.
