Submissions Open For Junior Bermuda Biennial
The Bermuda National Gallery is inviting artists aged 5 to 17 to submit up to three artworks for the inaugural Junior Bermuda Biennial.
A spokesperson said, “Calling all young creatives! The Bermuda National Gallery is seeking submissions from artists aged 5 to 17 for the inaugural Junior Bermuda Biennial, an exciting new addition to BNG’s flagship exhibition, which has been running for over three decades. The 2024 Junior Bermuda Biennial opens in November and provides the island’s youngest artists with a national platform to showcase their talents in a professional gallery setting.
“Like its adult counterpart, the 2024 Junior Bermuda Biennial is an open submission and internationally juried exhibition, offering participants the opportunity to display their work without restrictions on size, style, medium or theme. This open format encourages creativity and innovation, allowing Bermuda’s youngest artists to express themselves freely and push the boundaries of their creativity.
“Molly Bretton, Head of Learning at the Royal Academy of Arts [RA] in London, will serve as the juror for the inaugural Junior Bermuda Biennial. Bretton champions the importance of art in education and was instrumental in establishing the RA’s Young Artists Summer Show. She will be selecting the artworks based on originality, unique imagination and technical skill.”
Director of Exhibitions, Eve Godet Thomas says, “Having seen the impact that inclusion in the Bermuda Biennial has had on the careers of so many of both our emerging and established artists, BNG is proud to provide our youngest creatives with a national platform from which they can share their talent, creativity and unique view of the world. Application is free and all artists aged 5 to 17, along with their guardians or teachers, are invited to submit up to three artworks. This can be anything made in the past two years – from photography to painting, textiles, sculpture or film. The only limit is your imagination. Surprise us!”
The spokesperson said, “Submissions must be made online and close on September 29. Tips on applying, and how to photograph your artwork, can be found at www.bng.bm. There is no application fee. All applicants will receive a certificate of participation. Please note that this is a juried exhibition and not all submissions will be selected for inclusion in the final exhibition.”
