Jeane Nikolai Appointed As Permanent Secretary

Jeane-Nikolai-bermuda-oct-2024Jeane Nikolai has been appointed to the post of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry to the Cabinet Office.

A Government spokesperson said, “Today the Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter announced the appointment of Ms. Jeane Nikolai to the post of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry to the Cabinet Office.

“As the Permanent Secretary, Ms. Nikolai will work under the policy direction of the Minister of the Cabinet Office, Crystal Caesar.

“In her capacity Ms. Nikolai will be responsible for the departments which fall under the remit of the Cabinet Office, including the Department of Planning, the Department of Communications, the Bermuda Post Office, the Office of Project Management and Procurement and the Pati/PIPA Unit.

“Ms. Nikolai began her career in the public service serving in the Architect’s Division of the Ministry of Public Works. She brought a pragmatic and practical approach to her work, with expertise in space planning, project management, and contract administration.

“In 2003, Jeane took up the role of Facilities Manager for the Ministry of Education. She worked diligently to ensure schools were fit for purpose and projects were completed within budget each school year. In 2006, she furthered her professional development by earning the International Facilities Management Association Certified Facilities Manager certification.

“In 2009, Jeane became the Government of Bermuda’s Director of Energy in the newly established department. She played a pivotal role in developing Bermuda’s National Energy Policy, National Electricity Policy, Electricity Act 2016, National Fuels Policy, and Fuels Act 2022. Jeane led the Department of Telecommunications as the Acting Director, when the Regulatory Authority was first established.

“In 2018, the departments of Telecommunications and Energy were amalgamated, making her portfolio also responsible for telecommunications, space and satellite.

“Jeane Nikolai’s post took effect yesterday, October 10.
