Shotocup To Host Kazumi Karate On Nov 17th
Shotocup will host the 3rd Annual Bermuda Kazumi Karate Open on November 17th at the Whitney Institute.
A spokesperson said, “Shotocup is excited to announce the 3rd Annual Bermuda Kazumi Karate Open, taking place on November 17, 2024, at the Whitney Institute in Bermuda. Hosted in collaboration with the Tabata-Ha Dojo of Bermuda, this event will honor the memory of the late Sensei Kazumi Tabata, a legendary figure in the world of Shotokan Karate and a key influence in the growth of karate in Bermuda.
“The Kazumi Karate Open is open to all karate practitioners across the island, giving both seasoned athletes and newcomers the opportunity to showcase their skills. With divisions in Kata, Kumite, and Kobudo, this event promises to bring together Bermuda’s top talent for a day of spirited competition and camaraderie. More importantly, it provides a platform for Bermuda’s youth to engage in positive activities, emphasizing discipline, focus, and personal growth through martial arts.”
Shotocup Director Edmond Johnson shared his thoughts on the event, saying, “The Kazumi Karate Open is not just a tournament—it’s a celebration of the impact Sensei Tabata had on the karate community in Bermuda. His dedication to the sport and his influence in the lives of countless students have helped build a strong foundation for karate on the island. Talia Fox, one of Bermuda’s top athletes and last year’s champion, shared a message of encouragement during the last tournament, “It’s important to support local competitions. Events like these are critical to the development of our karate community.”
