Saatchi Trott Proud Of Being A Team Player

Saatchi Trott, the Bermuda under-14 national team footballer, believes his versatility is his greatest strength and is equally comfortable playing in defence and attack.
The 13-year-old was used primarily as a marauding right or left back during the recent Caribbean Football Union [CFU] Challenge Series in Trinidad and Tobago, where Bermuda lost 4-3 on penalties in the final against Barbados.
He was also deployed as a left winger, coming on as a substitute in the final, almost scoring on two occasions.
“I’ve played more as a winger, but the coaches used me mainly as a right back in this competition,” Trott told Bernews.
“I’m comfortable playing in defence or attack, and that’s one of my strengths as a player.
“I did pretty well at the tournament, helping my team build from the back and create goal-scoring opportunities.
“It was great knowing my family were watching and supporting me back home. My mom [Candice Trott] really helps and encourages me.”
Trott, who plays for Dandy Town under-15, described his first time representing Bermuda in an international tournament as a “special feeling.”
He believes the experience strengthened bonds among the players on and off the field.
“It was an honour to represent my country, and I was relieved to get the email to say I’d been called up,” he said.
“I knew most of the guys already and we became more comfortable with each other throughout the trip.
“If we keep working hard, I believe this team can win a trophy for Bermuda.”
The Berkeley Institute student expressed his gratitude to the Bermuda under-14 coaches, including head coach Vashun Blanchette, acknowledging their role in preparing the team for the competition.
“They prepared us well for the matches and inspired us with their team talks,” added Trott, whose ambition is to turn professional.
