Bermuda Impress At Pickleball World Cup
Bermuda’s athletes claimed an impressive haul of medals at the recent inaugural Pickleball World Cup in Lima, Peru.
The island’s athletes claimed 15 medals [seven gold, three silver and five bronze] in the three-day pre-World Cup competition, held at the Villa Deportiva Nacional.
In the Open Division, Imani Phillips and Melisa Judd won gold in the Women’s Doubles Skill [3.5]; Gavin Manders and Benjamin Jones secured gold in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.5]; Alvaro Triana and Jaden Jones won bronze in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.0]; Phillips seized silver in the Women’s Singles Skill [3.5]; and Manders won bronze in the Men’s Singles Skill [4.5].
Meanwhile, in the Senior Division [50 and above], Christine Todd and Victoria Powell won bronze in the Women’s Doubles Skill [4.0]; Sarah Fox and Val Stevenson claimed silver in the Women’s Doubles Skill [3.0]; Michael Way and Stuart Smith took gold in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.5]; Mark Cordeiro and George Thomas grabbed bronze in the Men’s Doubles Skill [4.0]; Tori Powell and Cordeiro won silver in the Mixed Doubles Skill [4.0]; Stevenson and Smith claimed gold in the Mixed Doubles Skill [4.0]; and Kiernan Bell and André Loustalot, of Chile, captured gold in Mixed Doubles Skill [3.0].
In the Junior Division [Under-18], Jaden Jones won gold in the Boys Doubles Age [13 to 18] and bronze in the Boys Singles [13 to 18]; and Kai Manders claimed gold in the Kids Singles.
The two-day World Cup was held at the weekend, with Bermuda reaching the quarter-finals of the Senior Division, and the Round of 16 in the Open Division.
