Dame Flora Duffy achieved a breakthrough performance with her best finish in the T100 Triathlon World Tour after placing third in Lake Las Vegas today [October 19].

Duffy demonstrated her rapid improvement at the longer distance [2-kilometre swim, 80km bike, 18km run], having finished ninth in her first race of the series in Ibiza, Spain, last month.

The Bermudian came out of the water second behind Haley Chura, of the United States, followed by Americans Taylor Knibb and Taylor Spivey.

With Chura falling back on the bike, Duffy remained in second before being hit with a 60-second penalty.

On the run, Duffy hauled in Lucy Byram, Britain, to finish third in 3hr 44min 04sec, with splits of 24:51, 2:05:59 and 1:10:14.

Knibb won the race in 3:37:03, with Julie Derron, of Switzerland, second in 3:39:17.

The seventh and final race in the series is the World Championship Grand Final in Dubai on November 16 and 17.
