Woodland Grove Care Centre Groundbreaking
Bermuda marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of the Woodland Grove Care Centre, the island’s first purpose-built hospice and eldercare facility.
A Government spokesperson said, “Bermuda took an important step forward with the groundbreaking of the Woodland Grove Care Centre, the island’s first purpose-built hospice and eldercare facility, which promises to provide a haven of compassionate care for individuals of all backgrounds. On Thursday, September 26th, The Hon. Tinee Furbert, Minister of Social Development and Seniors joined the Friends of Hospice Board, healthcare workers, and community leaders, to celebrate the milestone in Bermuda’s journey to advance equitable and high-quality care for all.”
In her remarks, Minister Furbert thanked Jennifer Mahoney, Executive Director of Friends of Hospice, and the Friends of Hospice Board for their vision and leadership, saying, “This will be more than a building—it will be a sanctuary, a home, a place of peace where care will be given in an environment of compassion and tranquility.”
The spokesperson said, “She acknowledged the tremendous positive impact the Centre will have across the community, benefiting healthcare workers, addressing critical housing needs for seniors, and providing a sanctuary for patients of all ages in need of specialized care and pain management.”
Minister Furbert also emphasized that Woodland Grove will serve all residents of Bermuda, regardless of socioeconomic or racial background. “This Centre will belong to everyone, all are welcome, and all will be treated with the utmost respect and dignity,” she affirmed.
The spokesperson said, “This project aligns with key initiatives outlined in the Government’s Mid-Year Review, which underscores a commitment to improving the quality of life for Bermuda’s ageing population and to making essential healthcare services accessible. Beyond a state-of-the-art facility, Woodland Grove aims to elevate eldercare standards across the island, ensuring comfort, privacy, and empowerment for patients and caregivers.
While the ceremony marked a momentous beginning, Minister Furbert reminded attendees that the journey is ongoing: “As Bermuda looks toward the future, we must continue to support initiatives like this that ensure our people can live with dignity, respect, and the highest quality of care.”
The spokesperson said, “Friends of Hospice calls on the community to rally in support of Woodland Grove, as collective efforts will be needed to see this much-needed facility through to completion.
“The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors commends Friends of Hospice and all involved in making Woodland Grove a reality. This future facility is set to transform care for individuals and families across Bermuda, establishing a new standard of compassion and inclusivity for future generations.”
