Bermuda-Style Home Listed For $29.95 Million
A home which is described as ‘Bermuda-style’ — and is located in the same neighborhood as Venus Williams and Tiger Woods’ properties — on Jupiter Island, Florida, has hit the market for $29.95 million.
The Mansion Global website said, “A beachfront home on Jupiter Island, Florida, that’s right next door to the home of tennis great Venus Williams has hit the market for $29.95 million.
“Built in 1960, the house—which is about 20 miles north of Palm Beach—sits on more than 2.5 acres that’s heavily landscaped for privacy and has about 212 feet of beachfront.
“‘It’s nearly 3 acres on the ocean, which is very, very difficult to get,’ said listing agent Shawn Elliott of Nest Seekers International, who brought the property to the market on Monday. He shares the listing with Stephanie Schwed.
“Williams isn’t the only sports phenom in the neighborhood—down the street, on the Intracoastal side, is Tiger Woods’s sprawling estate that features a golf practice area with three greens and has an estimated market value of more than $60 million, according to PropertyShark.
“The seller of the newly listed home bought the property in early 2022 for $16.5 million using a limited liability company, records show. Mansion Global couldn’t identify the seller.
“The yellow-painted, Bermuda-style home was designed by architect John Volk, who worked in and around Palm Beach from the 1920s until his death in 1984.”
BERMUDA TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE .
The departure we see these days from typical Bermuda concept and appearance has left Bermuda with a loss of its archectutral culture which which had be recognized as a lasting concept which gave Bermuda it charm over past years.
The Bermuda Government in its wisdom endorces the mis conceived idea of Affordable Housing which in this day and age is not achievable, as virtually every part of our more recent cinstruction is imported .
The excuse offered was to save money on roofing being offered by those who lack an engineeing back ground, that unfortunately has its draw backs .
What we see to day a virtually a complete departure from that which created in the past .
Evolution is not the mother of invention .
The loss of our stone culture which we were universally known for, becomes a stain on our heritage .
The house in the picture falls short.
The way things are going, a “Bermuda style” building will soon look like an American low-rise apartment block.
Mr Joe Bloggs..
I know i will have some difficulty writing this by having to contain my self as I can not wave a majic wand over the project
I am not alone in my assumptions
I am assuming the trained eye has noticed that there can be no excuse for the low pitch roofing.
Was that how we save or waste money?
The roof area apears inadequate for water collection also future roof maintenance will be problems.
I project say only two year beween maintenance .
The disproportionate roof to wall height at the Bermudiana Beach is what happen when the are too many cook in the kitchen.
I guess Dep of Planning liked it ???
Our city hall has good proportions however the design was initially criticized . we can no please them all
I am more than dumfounded at their outragious cost of a housing project.
It is some what frustration when they are unable at this late stage able to find a sutable viable use for the space considered by many as a financial loss from the public purse for which there can be no excuse ,even if you put blinders on.
The debt plus interest on the projec may financially destroy us who know what the future may be ?
It must be told , also that the neather / neither appearance of over all design being a misplaced collection of concrete leaves much to be desired.
Congestion ,will be a key issue when i come to so many people living together in obe conjested area ..
At least BHC require a separate rentable unit that was the best for owner financial sustainability the were no foreclosures .
As for the colour at the beach ! was that selection from the majic paint box?
some what, not worthy of comment.
However those building have no artistic excuse for their existence as unfortunately there are many mis placed structures which fall in the same category.
THE BERMUDA ROOF .
The changes in construction practice as we see adopted in Bermuda these days as being approved has a negative impact on what construction materials are available and which are put to use .
With the apparent impending shortage of slate we may expect to see the flat concrete roof constrcton with parapets in the future being a complete departure from the norm . ( EG ; The Cabinet building.)
Bermuda coral slat becomes frail or fragile if you will ,when laid at a low pitch angles, this was found to cause cracking through settlement, further to that problem the same low roof angle can cause los of slate during a severe hurricane as this type of roof is literally sucked off by in balance caused by and subject to the loss compensating down force wind pressure .
Bacically the so called modern. Florida/ American low roof angle now adoped in Bermuda is compromised , a classic example of a proper roof construction can be see on most if not all of our older houses .
( Great Grand Pa Pa knew best .)
To take that one step further by increasing the plumb measurement of the lumber being pitched at a greater angle gives the added benefit of aditional strength eliminates the disposal of off cuts and greater potential of survival during hurricanes , with the exception of acompaning tornadoes , were personal safety should be encouraged .
I have never been in favour of ornamental blocking the eve perimeter there by reducing interior roof ventilation no wonder those rooms are hot during summer ,caused by using ornamental trim.
Concealed rain water down pipes is not a good idea.
Don’t tell me it is may house and my money, you can pick you own cherries .
I beleive in luck just as you do.
