FUSE Raises Funds For Healthy Meals Program
Sail Away Soca and Jumuiya Ya Afrika’s FUSE event on October 19 raised funds for The Stephen Lee Helping Hands Program.
A spokesperson said, “Sail Away Soca continuously strives to create unique experiences and amazing memories. What makes the music even sweeter is knowing it’s all for a great cause.
“On October 19, Sail Away Soca and Jumuiya Ya Afrika teamed up to put on FUSE: Soca Meets Afrobeats. This event merged the vibrant rhythms of Soca and Afrobeats. It saw overwhelming support from the community and left attendees buzzing with excitement. All proceeds from the event goes directly to The Stephen Lee Helping Hands Program, which currently provides healthy lunches to underprivileged students at Dellwood Middle School.”

Mr. Henry Thomas of Jumuiya Ya Afrika said, “It was awe-inspiring to see so many people come out for this wonderful event. A big thank you to my co-organizer Mr. Hafid James and all our amazing sponsors, patrons, volunteers, and the Jumuiya Ya Afrika crew, including Mr. Rotimi Martins and Mrs. Priscilla Ogamba. The music, DJ battles, and the varieties of African and West Indian foods all culminated in a most enjoyable evening.”
Hafid James said, “We had a great turnout, amazing vibes, and outstanding feedback. And it wouldn’t have been possible without our community sponsors: International Island Boys, ONE Communications, Sound Concepts for staging, audio, and lighting, City of Hamilton, Burrows and Lightbourn as our official drink supplier, and Icon Entertainment for the decorations that set the mood. A special shoutout goes to all our volunteers – we couldn’t have done this without you.”
Shira Jatto, Senior Director at One Communications, said, “We are pleased to support Sail Away Soca for the second year. Their event truly celebrates music and community and truly embodies the spirit of giving back. By supporting this event, we’re helping provide healthy lunches to underprivileged students at Dellwood Middle School through The Stephen Lee Helping Hands Program. Together, we’re making a real difference in the lives of these students, ensuring they have the nourishment they need to thrive.”
Dwayne Caines said, “The Corporation of Hamilton is proud to stand alongside community leaders and organizations like Sail Away Soca and Jumiya Ya Afrika in making a tangible difference in the lives of Bermuda’s youth. We believe that investing in the well-being of our students today is investing in the future of our entire island. Together, through efforts like the healthy meals program at Dellwood Middle School, we can ensure a brighter, healthier tomorrow for all.”
Hafid James said, “Sail Away Soca hopes to continue growing its brand, build on community partnerships, and expand the Helping Hands Program. We want to thank everyone who came out to support our event – it was a vibe. We hope to see you next year as we set sail during Bermuda Carnival 2025.”
