International Day For Persons With Disabilities
The Ministry of Social Development and Seniors invites the public to commemorate the UN International Day for Persons with Disabilities [UNIDPD] on December 3rd, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at City Hall.
A Government spokesperson said, “This global observance, established in 1992, promotes the rights, well-being, and inclusion of persons with disabilities while raising awareness of their contributions across all aspects of society.
“This year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” highlights the importance of:
- “Promoting leadership of persons with disabilities in all areas of life.
- “Ensuring inclusion in social, cultural, economic, and political sectors.
- “Increasing participation in decision-making processes.
- “Raising awareness of rights and achievements.
“The event will feature information booths, speakers who are leaders with disabilities, and representatives from disability-related organizations sharing details about their services and support. Attendees will also have the opportunity to register for the Bermuda Disability Register on-site.”
Tinee Furbert, Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, who has long championed the rights of persons with disabilities, emphasizes the importance of community support stating, “The UN International Day for Persons with Disabilities reminds us of the remarkable contributions made by persons with disabilities here in Bermuda and around the world. As we celebrate their leadership and amplify their voices, we encourage everyone to attend and learn more about the critical work being done locally and globally to build an inclusive and sustainable future.”
